This really explains how Vorador is alive in Blood Omen 2. I know the common theory was that his head was attached but it makes more sense that he escaped because of THIS scene. In the BO1 Moebius was there for Vorador's execution (Presumably keeping him weak with his staff) then immediately gets killed by Kain after Vorador's decapitation. But if Moebius wasn't at the execution and was never killed by Kain before Kain denied his sacrifice (which we know is the case in this timeline) then Vorador likely just escaped.

In the end, after all he had been through, after all the hopelessness that happened to him, And all he had lost, even still, Raziel did what he said he would do. He chose integrity.

Prolonged existence in that realm makes you some kind of immortal, which is why the hylden are still around. This was apparently explained in Blood Omen 2.

Out of the entire series Kane could really trust no one but you can tell it hurt him bad when he truly killed Raziel… it’s crazy about the entire series I thought Kane was just power-hungry all the time but dude just wanted to break fate and betraying his lieutenant was a part of it

I like how on this one Kane was technically the good guy just wanting to rule as any tyrant would but the betrayal of his most trusted Lieutenant was necessary to keep unbound from the wheel of fate. The voice acting was underrated as hell and way to advance for when it came out especially when Kane gave that speech to Rio saying flip a coin enough times and one day it lands on its edge but I did find it shocking that did not die from getting the heart ripped out and how he went into the demon realm would’ve been pretty cool if the leader he fought in legacy of Kane omen two showed up saying well well well all this time I thought I would have to escape you come here yourself would’ve been pretty cool hidden boss

Raziel is spirit, Kain is body, Elder God is the brain, the mechanism that keeps us imprisoned in this reality through reincarnation. Only when the two become one the way to liberation is possible :)

You gotta figure that the 4th game would have Kain searching for a way to free Raziel from the Reaver and in the end Kain faces the possessed Janos and at the end, Janos reveals that you can stab a dead body and force any soul within the Reaver into it permanently, so Kain stabs Janos' dead body and calls for Raziel's soul to enter Janos' dead body.

That is what made it so wild, that Raziel could CHOOSE to be either the Vampire or the Hylden champion, and his actions allowed him to play out both roles, even as the Elder God and Mobius manipulated him into choosing what _THEY_ wanted, to ensure Kain wouldn't be a threat to the Elder God's control of the Wheel of Fate.

What makes Defiance's ending even more poignant is the fact it takes place chronologically at the same time as Kain's selfish refusal of the sacrifice. Meaning that while his young self is basking in his power, preparing for his ambitions of conquering Nozgoth & turning humanity into cattle; Elder Kain is finally freed of the corruption which has inflicted him since birth, having finally changed his destiny thanks to the sacrifice of his own vampiric son, he sets out on a quest to free Nozgoth from the crux of its corruption. Long story short, Kain's beginnings as a villain, literally starts at the same time as his redemption as a hero, as The Scion of Balance.

Kain's first moment of being purified of his corruption, and he feels hope. He thinks it an illusion, due to the millennia of maddeningly doomed conquest of a sick land, but still, he feels it. Now he knows the truth, and he has the means to change things, for he technically does have two Reavers in his hand, and the Time Streamer is dead for good. He can change what needs to be changed. He HAS to. It's his job. His destiny. His friend sacrificed himself for it. His friend, who once told him when asked what he would do if faced with the decisions Kain had been faced with. "I would choose Integrity." And so he did. He made the sacrifice, and Kain owes it to him to follow through. No more games, no more squabbles. Kain, as a man, always knew he was meant for more, and was dissatisfied with his life, even being born to a rich and powerful family. His ambitions to be greater can now be realized, for that's what he chose, and his friend, the champion of free will, allowed him to do so.

It's crazy when you find out this entire game is just an endless loop. The whole reason why the soul reaver shattered in the first game is because Raziel's soul couldn't destroy itself. He was always the spirit trapped in the blade

Notice how Kain starts referring to the blade and himself as "us" when attacking the Elder God. Even though Raziel's soul now resides in the blade and isn't truly "there" anymore, Kain still considers this to be a battle they are fighting together.

The most amazing thing is, depending on how you interpret the first game, this recontextualizes Kain casting Raziel into the abyss. He looks away, and you think it's a sign of disrespect; it's an "I'm friggin done with you, begone" But in reality, he didn't want to see it happen. He couldn't look. The most amazing thing is they didn't even plan all that; the ending of SR1 was supposed to be different, but they took the cut content, worked around it, and IMPROVED the overall storyline. There is no game writer better than Amy Hennig. I will not be debating this.
