What types of hens do yoyhave or are they mixed?
@TotheCoop7 күн бұрын
I have one each of 4 different breeds--the grey (Marley) is a Bluebell, the gold (Ladybug) is a Crested Cream Legbar (or at least some similar variety--she was sold as a crested cream legbar and has the typical blue-green egg color), the black with silver (Agnes) is a Daisy Belle, also called pied sussex, and the black with copper (Korra) is a Black Copper Marans (they lay those very dark, almost chocolate-brown shelled eggs)!

Would love to know about your range routine! what days and how long do you keep them in the run and when do you let them out and why! Thanks! coming from a newbie chicken owner
@TotheCoop14 күн бұрын
Here I have them in the run the majority of the time, because we have a ton of foxes in the neighbourhood, and rumors of a chicken hawk! I also have my own two dogs who are lovely, but who would chase the chickens. I do let the hens out at least once a day, supervised! Length of time depends on how much time I have, but also sometimes they just wander back in to hang out in the run. I'd say anywhere between 20 min and a couple hours is the range! I know the more time they have to explore and forage the better, but so far this is the best balance I can get in terms of safety. I try to give them interesting things to do in the run too, and I visit with them alot just because I like em :)
