Try it again after you check all of the air tube, especially the elbow, for obstructions like mud dauber nests or spiderwebs. They can be tricky to get out sometimes. I suspect the diesel will run fine in it afterwards with a good preheat again. I’ve seen enough of these run perfectly on kerosene and would think diesel would at least burn decent.

Any idea how strong the compressor may be? Was considering taking the compressor out & converting it into an under the hood air compressor since its military grade.. any thoughts or recommendations ??? Thanks for cool videos ! :)

He likes the idea of having one source of fuel but realizes that if there's a chance of getting diesel to burn then he'll need propane to light it, and the comedy continues to write itself.

Just a tiny warning. Heating up the axel may damage the seal and even mess with the hardening of the axel, making it easier to bend.

I would have liked to know the total output of each. To me this would be a major factor in deciding what one is best. I bought a 3500 wat gas/propane generator from tractor supply. It cost about $500. I have not gotten to find out yet if it can keep up with it's rated output because it can run a table saw two circular saws, and one drill all at the same time. It is a lot larger then the ones you showed. It is probably around 100-150 lb (hard to move by myself) it also has a 5 gal. gas tank so it can run for about 6 hr with a heavy load, or around 12 with a light load (one table saw used about twice an hr) it has an outlet rated at 30amps 120 v can any of those you showed even get close to that? I bought it to supplement the solar in my RV, but use it most as a power source for working on remote job sites. I would like to know the output of the diy generator. Also as a side note, I believe you could use two alternators on your diy and still have enough power from the motor. This would require a really expensive inverter to keep up with it as well. All in all not a bad video, just left me with more questions than answers.

You have to supply voltage to energize the field of the alternator unless you got a self energizing unit. The generator has to be polarized so it will work by just momentarily shorting out put to ground.

My father built a 12V portable generator to charge the batteries in our popup camping trailer that had battery powered lights. I think he got it from an article in Popular Mechanics. It used a small gas motor with a horizontal drive shaft mounted on an aluminum frame. He tried it first with a car alternator and it wouldn't work. A local generator/alternator repairman told him he needed an old car generator, which he happened to have. The horizontal shaft drove a v-belt to a pulley on the generator. That didn't work at first either until he found he needed to have the voltage regulator hung loosely nearby instead of being bolted down. I don't understand why but it worked. I sold the unit at auction because we no longer used it. Hope this helps you or gives you some ideas. This was back in the mid 1970s. I don't know if you could even find the components today. Could be another project for a video. I'd love to see it.

The Model T. A motor that could run on Gas, Kerosene and get this, Ethanol. Meaning if you ran outta fuel, all you had to do was make the strongest Moonshine you could, and the thing could run on it.

Can you comment on, explain, or do a video on your ammo box controller? Sweet video, I came across a M2A stove and did a quick check to see what i've come across. I'm guessing that is diesel too? Anywho, figuring out the power hookup (controller and converter) would be my biggest hold-ups, as i'd want this for prepping/camping, would be curious to see what further you can share on these units.

Wot kind of man uses a funnel? Nice to know what my new to me 42 year old Coleman stove can use for fuel as Coleman fuel is 22.000 a liter and gas is 1.76 / liter where I live .One video I watched the guy wrapped the tube in copper wire to enhance the heat to vaporize the fuel?

Well a few thoughts, first maybe the two cycle engine is a good idea because it makes power on every stroke unlike a 4 cycle engine, second even a 60 amp automotive alternator will require about five horse power to run it but will require more than 3600 rpms if direct driven. Think about in a car it's most likely being over driven by 500% in a car looking at the crank pully vs. the Alternator pully. And the next question is the Alternator producing 13.8 volts DC or will you look to get 3 phase A/C without rectification after modifying the alternator? Sorry but I missed the first installment of this video.

The alternator RPM range is about 6000 and most weed eaters run around that range. They are probably only around 3000 at idle so you'll have to rig it to run at higher throttle. Hopefully it has the torque to turn the alternator without slowing down too much.

I had the same idea this summer for running a 12v water pump instead of lugging a 60lb marine battery back and forth between the water tank and home to charge it once a week.... Looking forward to seeing how it works and hopefully I can give it a try this winter.

Use no. 1 diesel fuel if you must. Kerosene has a lower sulfur content and burns cleaner. Most diesel engines will run on it just fine.

What a cool machine, I love it, good find & fix, not the sort of thing you go hiking with, but yeah a smaller version would be great for campers, boats, etc. the compressor seemed quiet & cant use much power either, boiling about 10ltrs in 10 minutes is pretty awesome. I would like to see you get the Coleman going properly on deisel, that would be handy camping with deisel 4wd for a 1 fuel solution. Cheers
