no spacers or buttering the back of the slab with slurry
@SamDaviesBuilder2 күн бұрын
I don’t need to use spacers with these…I can get them perfect with a 12mm joint. You don’t need to primer this type of slab if you have a decent wet mix like this. However, if you’re laying porcelain then use spacers and use cement based primer on the back of the slab :)

What do you call the swiveling arm that holds the bricks up?
@SamDaviesBuilder2 күн бұрын
That’s called an ‘indispensable tool’. It’s a castor wheel off a trolley fixed to the oven floor and then a piece of wood attached to that. You can then fit a angle bracket to the end of it to help support the brick

Great job. What kind of metal clips you used so they can support heat? What are the dimensions so they can stay and support weight?

Not sure exactly what they were as they came with the BBQ kit but they were at least 100mm long (50mm into the brick and 50mm out) and 50mm wide. They were a galvanised metal so they don’t rust and didn’t bend easily, but I’m not sure sure the thickness

The arrows on the back of the tiles are there for the factory to calibrate their systems. If at quality check there is a discrepancy in the cut edge of tile the arrow will indicate which part of the cutting process is faulty. Nothing to do with laying direction of slab, although you can of course follow the arrows if you wish.

Beautiful work as always buddy. The quality on the video is amazing. I can see that lovely mortar in all its detail. That is a very long retaining wall. And this vid is perfect timing as I’ll be starting the blockwork for my wall in a few weeks. Nice to see you’ve got a new helper. Hope he’s eager to learn from a master! Are those wall ties for the concrete to cure around to grip onto the blockwork? And that footing for it looks like a monster. What dimensions is it? Got to be 400mm deep like mine.
@SamDaviesBuilder8 күн бұрын
Thanks! New GoPro so that explains the better quality. Yea Danny is turning out to be a quick learner but he’s going into the motor trade in September. Ties are to grip into the concrete backfill yea, just to tie it all together a bit more. I didn’t do the foundation but that is a huge pour and at least 400mm like you say, it was because when they dug out the first bit it was lower than the house next doors shallow foundations. I think the guy that did the shuttering and pour was glad to get that concrete in before any movement happened!
