As you say, power isn't always the answer. Propagation characteristics of radio signals at specific frequencies are not going to change just because you are 'shouting louder'. 3GHz and 10GHz are used for maritime radars as they love to bounce off objects. Our VHF sets are supposed to be used at 1W for everything except emergency comms (25W). The propagation difference between those modes is barely discernable. The reason you have a higher power option is to try to drown out interference (other transmissions on the same frequency), it isn't suddenly going to start acting like an MF/HF signal.

Well, dang,... Would happily use that day time footage in a video production. Wonder if Caddx would ever make a clip on Anamorphic + ND filter?Price for the drone/goggles combo is less expensive then a Mavic Air 3 with controller and no goggles.. the difference would be enough to pay for a TX16S for the GoFilm Combo and still have some dollars to spare.

Nice video! What would you think about mounting one antenna on the top of the quad and one on the bottom? I've purchased the Avatar HD Pro and I'm thinking of best ways to have max range for a jack-of-all-trades 5 inch. I found a free 3D print mount in a Y-shape for the dual antennas that goes on top of the quad behind the battery, but what if I were to have one antenna behind the battery and one below the quad?
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 5 күн бұрын
That's certainly a way of doing it. In most cases, having an antenna underneath the quad woulf be a good idea as 99% of the time you'll be above yourself and thus a antenna coming out the bottom would get a better signal. The reason most people don't do it is that it's hard to protect the antenna from getting smooshed when you land

@CurryKitten yes, BF AIO works! Have a look at some of my vidoes, where I used a BF AIO to provide the arming signal to the Vista and O3 on my EDF and plane. Kinda expensive way to use an AIO for just for the arming but it works! I previously used it on my 64mm Rafale with BF AIO and Vista (crashed and burned last year) and recently my PA-18 Super Cub with BF AIO and O3. Had an 80mm F/A-18 with Inav with O3 but removing it and just using a BF AIO soon.

Interesting - so the Vista & O3 need an arming signal... to presumably start recording. There's a setting in Walksnail where you don't need a signal - I figured DJI would at least do the same. I have to say, that if you are going to put an FC in your planes for doing the arming, you might as well run iNav and have some decent OSD & flight modes? Whilst I find iNav a pain for rovers, it's pretty easy for plane setup
@velocistafpv
@velocistafpv 5 күн бұрын
@@CurryKittenI’m new to Inav but it is more of a pain to fit the large Inav stack in a plane and getting the CG right with all the camera, gimbals etc, unless it is an AIO (not many AIOs are supported by Inav unfortunately). What I found so far, the Vista can be powered without a signal (just turn off the low power mode option) but the O3 would need a signal (or get a Seeeduino to provide the signal but no OSD). Also, not all Inav OSD items are supported by the O3. So currently, I’m now using an O3 which gets signal from a BetaFPV SuperP 14Ch ELRS via a cheapish GEPRC G4 AIO.

I wonder if your home arrow was having issues because you were unable to go directly forward to begin with. • Notes from Betaflight…..without a compass, the quad 'learns' the heading of the quad from the direction of travel over ground from data provided by the GPS. The craft must be travelling at least 1-2m/s, in clean nose-forward flight, for at least several seconds, before its attitude can be correctly determined from GPS data alone. Always fly dead-straight after take-off, in clean pitch forward flight. If it is windy, fly directly into the wind, or directly with the wind, so that the flight path over ground matches the orientation of the quad. Check that the arrow rotates and points to home after short period of straight flying like this. Typically some 30-50m distance is required. If not, return, power cycle and try again.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 5 күн бұрын
Yeah - I kind of read it. Obviously BF wasn't ever designed to run on a car, and I wonder if simply adding a compass will give a proper direction. Which I might try on the 1.2G setup

@@CurryKitten I was wondering if you could just push the car along or hold it in your arms for the first couple of metres in a really straight line, and see if the accuracy is improved maybe? Worth a try before you swap out to one with a compass.

I replaced the original antenna i smashed with a flyfishrc osprey, i just use a direct ufl one, there is alway loss in the cable and connectors so i get the shortest that will fit properly but still has the element up above my battery a little and it definitely seemed to be alot more stable then the original! So now i just toss the original that comes in the vtx kits! I will say Walksnails newest antenna is improved, but i trust the flyfish more... I have tried the rush since too cuz they was on sale on AliExpress, i really can't tell the difference between the cherry and osprey, the osprey just has better selection and availability. But newbeedrone has a cloverleaf ufl i put on my 85mm ws and it is way better yet! It's just not as durable but on a super light weight build its fine also the length of cable needs more selections

Huge improvement with the taller/better antennas! Regarding the vibration, did you restore the iFlight filters after upgrading to Betaflight 4.4/4.5 and the new motors? The C7 will do that with the default filters. I think it has to do with the ESC (Succex/Blitz) causing gyro noise at 24khz PWM. I changed the PWM frequency from 24khz to 48khz and it cleared up the gyro noise enough that I was able to remove the aggressive iFlight filters. Anyway, just a suggestion.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 12 күн бұрын
As iFlight is still saying (at least when I last checked) don't use 4.4 and is saying they will release their suggested tune for 4.5 at some point, this is still on their recommended 4.3 settings (which is annoying from the lack of HD OSD support) Pretty sure it was initially flying without any oscillation which makes me think I've just got a dodgy prop somewhere
@HrDux
@HrDux 12 күн бұрын
@@CurryKitten If the vibration happens at wide range of throttle, then it's probably something mechanical like a propeller. But if it's at a specific throttle level, then the ESC is might be causing gyro noise. I would give 48khz PWM a try; it's a simple change that you can easily revert if it doesn't work for you. I was able to fix mid-throttle oscillations on two of my quads (Chimera 7 and AOS 4) by switching to 48khz PWM on my ESCs. Shielding the ESC can also help.

Focus mode kicks in when the signal is bad to try and give you the main bulk of the image without spiking the latency.
