Hello Vincence, 20 years ago I followed your tests on scanners and scanning programmes with great interest. Then I didn't hear from you for a long time until I came across your video by chance. As I also edit my images with DXO, I hope to see more videos from you soon.

Thank you Reinerfa1416, I stopped doing printer and scanner reviews some 15 years ago as most of the innovations were very small. I am now in the process of putting together more videos on photo content rather than reviews. These will be on KZfaq and other social media platforms

I'm trying to remove my Manfrotto MVH500AH from my tripod, however, the head keeps rotating no matter I tighten the panning knob. Hence, I can't remove the head. Any idea to solve this problem is welcome. I'm not a handyman, therefore, I don't want to dismantle the head. This head is good enough for my needs.

How can I activate the Channel Mixer (shown at 15 min). I bought the so-called Elite version! Have I missed something about necessary extra payment? A channel mixer should be a natural part of any ordinary color control section. But this is not a real surprise - when after half a year with suggestions to DxO (hiding behind a wall of hired response artists) the following is still missing: 1. the auto masking brush doesn't reveal the found edges, 2. the masking brush can't draw a straight line, 3. the auto mask can't be repaired but needs to be appended with another mask, 4. the AI noise reduction needs to be saved and then reloaded as a DNG before it becomes visible (remember to introduce the Lens Sharpening in advance, otherwise it has left the menu), 5. I see no way to open a native raw file with zero (hidden) manipulation, or to choose between a number of demosaicing algorithms, 6. no layers in HSL, 7. the u-point technique offers no precise parametric masking and no combinations between drawn and parametric masks, 8. the masks offers no edge management, etc., etc. All fair expectations from any raw manager carrying the name - elite! Compared to the usefulness of Pure RAW x, this Lab is a disappointment, and improvements are too few and much too long in the pipe line.

the files processed with PureRAW have more the look and feel of a painting. 🤨 They look pretty artifical. But thanks for testing. I am not convinced.

I have watched quite a few reviews of PureRAW 3 and comparisons with other denoise products. There is one aspect of denoise applications that I have never seen addressed. At different levels of noise, is one application better than another. Is it possible that with low levels of noise, one application might be better than a competitor, but not as good when compared to processing a photo with high amounts of noise? Most reviews of PureRAW 3 focus on using DeePRIME XD, but with only moderate levels of noise are the other options better? At what level of noise should you switch from using your normal photo app (i.e. Lightroom ) to using an application specifically designed to denoise the photo?

I am doing a follow up video on how noise effects the actual quality of an image. I did compare the results of several noise reduction settings in my PureRAW 2 review kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rdqXa8Koy8rYmJs.html

I think the upgrade price is too high considering the less prominent improvement from XD. This begins to feel like the Capture One model where yearly payments for upgrades are impossible to distinguish from a subscription model.
@vincentoliver
@vincentoliver Жыл бұрын
I think the upgrade price is fair, although if you have version 2 or Photolab 6 Elite version, then you may want to think whether the upgrade is necessary for you needs. Personally I was very impressed with Version 3 and felt DxO had made some significant feature improvements.

Hi Vincent, What tripod are you using with this head? Im looking for tripod that I could use both for video and photography? any recommendation?
@vincentoliver
@vincentoliver Жыл бұрын
I was using a Manfrotto tripod, they have an extensive range to suit all price points. I would recommend a carbon fibre option. Avoid cheaper brands which you might find on Amazon or eBay, generally you get what you pay for. If using for video as well as photos then make sure the tripod has a ball and socket head, this will allow for levelling up the tripod head - especially useful for video work when panning.

Thank you for your overview of PL6 and VP4. I agree with your comments about how powerful and simple they are. However, you didn't mention using VP4 as a module within PL6. I was hoping that the functionality was the same as the stand alone interface for VP4, but it doesn't look like it. Do you have any thoughts on the matter? Thank you.

I will be putting together some more detailed videos on each of the new features in PL6 and a more comprehensive review on VP 4. I am not too happy with this review, it is far too long and I would like to focus more on each function. Thank you for your feedback.

I had the same question - just started using PL6 a few days ago and Viewpoint seems like it does the same quality in lens correction and perspective correction - aside from the warping tool, they seem to be the same

Hello Vincent Oliver, I bought this HP Photosmart B8550 around 2010 and paid $400. plus tax from staples Canada. My estimate of total pages printed +or- 100 coloured prints. HP needs to take responsibility and stop this throw it away attitude! We have enough garbage on this planet! My mission now is to take on these corporations and make them responsible for the pollution and waste they create...Thanks for your time and input. KJ Haley

What’s great about this camera is the way that it polarised opinion amongst people who haven’t tried using it. I was afraid to buy one because it has no viewfinder. When I bought mine, I immediately added a loupe viewfinder. I immediately found that its image quality and the degree to which control and user interface interact was intuitive and flexible. In the realm of K-01, excellent pictures are a given. I can use a huge back catalogue of legacy glass and brand new digital era glass. The design’s calm surface simplicity lets me work without breaking my creative flow. With my screen loupe fitted it is as if I am using a medium format focusing screen or a view camera to perfect my composition. Critical focus is easy with manual lenses the camera offers different aids. Above all, the files are gorgeous. There is excellent dynamic range and the image processing engine is top notch. Newsom’s design is pure, rational and unfussy. The functionality and flexibility are supported by great design and these things go hand in hand. I like eye level viewfinders and used a screen loupe to get that. The design seamlessly accepts the screen loupe and I can use it in the studio or, in the field without problems. The K-01 was ahead of the curve where marketing mirrorless cameras over DSLR became a trend. This machine may have benefited from an EVF but, that would have made it harder to design the user interface and have the same ergonomics and intuitive simplicity of use. It seems sad that there isn’t a further iteration Pentax and Marc Newsom on a new K-01. It was misunderstood by everyone who hadn’t bought one and harnessed its Zen image making ways.
