What a hack, gable trim goes on top of the panel, predrill the panels for easier installation as well as not cutting a burr that destroys the rubber grommet on the fastener. Use stitching screws on laps

Seems to me sealing the edge is unnecessary as the water would have to seep under the drip edge AND over the hip of the roof edge?

Could you use this technique to join two metal buildings together, and how long can you get that W flashing in? Current building is 40' and want to place another 40' building beside it...+

Is it really easy? We just got a new roof and the owner of the company damaged a shingle. They are acting like it isn't a big deal and it doesn't sound like they are going to repair it. I'm really depressed that my brand new roof is damaged and looks like crap.

These are absolute garbage and will degrade under UV light. They will be brittle and cracking/leaking within 10 years. Note worth the trouble. If you want skylights in metal, just install actual real skylight units and flash them correctly.

My issue is I have 8 box vents 4 on each slant in the center running along the roof. Then 3 ridge vents across the roof. I want a metal roof. But I can't find any info on removing the box vents or keeping them for the new roof. I'm looking at removing the shingles.

the problem with wood perlins is water collects around screws and on the perlins and rots the wood if you use perlins only use ceadar or cypress they wont rot and your metal roff wont fly off the add. for a roofing co. shows them putting meatal roofing directly on roof deck no perlins

NEVER, EVER have your screw placement in the flats… ALWAYS on the rib. The screw gasket will fail and leak. The rib will not. Learned this with galvanized metal years and years ago.

How are you going to put solar panels on it if your roofing over the top of the shingles like that? Isn't that going to make it easily dented if you ever have to walk on it for maintenance?

around 14 min you said to overhang an 1 or 2 off the drip edge, what if I'm not square and I have a rib directly between 1 and 2"....if I cut through the rib with an angle that will look ugly from under. Should I just cut if flush with no overhang and put caulking under it ? Or option 2, leave the full rib extending and add a gable end trim over that mess ?

Question is can you use butal tape or caulking silicone down the seams of each panel to prevent water from seeping underneath

In Canada we use gable fascia trim where the gable fascia goes up behind that trim. Do you need to remove the fascia gable trim before installing the roofing trim? Or it better to use a different kind of roofing trim?

I’ve just completed putting a new metal roof on my shed. Without your videos, I would never have been able to do it. Your excellent and clear advice is truly exemplary. Each video provided the step-by-step information that I needed to complete the job. At 72 years old, I still love learning new things and my shed needed a new roof! I can’t thank you enough for your time and effort to put this series together.

Putting a metal roof over shingles defeats the purpose of the metal roof, a metal roof is lighter than a shingle roof, by installing a metal roof over shingles you now have the weight of the shingles and the weight of the metal on the roof. Do it right and remove the shingles, that is the only way to be sure there is no plywood damage/rot and you can properly install peel and stick water barrier under the metal roof and you get the benefit of the lighter metal roof putting less stress on the roof structure.
@joe-hp4nk27 күн бұрын
Take off all roofing to the roof boards. Make sure the surface is smooth and free of old nails. Then go ahead and install your metal roofing right over the clean existing roof boards. Bob your uncle.
@mustangecoboosthpp386926 күн бұрын
Wrong, you need to install a peel and stick water barrier before you install the metal panels. This will keep water from penetrating the underside of the metal roof and rotting the plywood.
@joe-hp4nk26 күн бұрын
@@mustangecoboosthpp3869 That's stupid, nothing is going to penetrate the metal roofing..
@Mike_from_Canmore27 күн бұрын
Wow. I dont use the wood underneath I just nailed it all down Then I siliconed all the panels together and over the nails. I left about 8 inches overhang to save on buying the metal edge parts.

This is the wrong way to do it. Metal sweats and will have no place to go, this will rot over a little bit of time. You must place a vertical first and then the horizontal then attach the metal roof.

Darn! You left out my one question about the initial weave. Starters go up the valley from the “under” direction, then comes the weave from the “over” side: Is that a starter too? Is it both starter and shingle that weaves over it?

Thank you sir, I have used your videos several times in the last few weeks while prepping my sister's gambrel style garage that my dad and I built 50 years ago. Do you have any videos that are gambrel specific? I'm trying to wrap my brain around the facia trim piece where it intersects both above and below the hip cap. It sure seems like I have watched at least 100 videos about metal roofing in recent weeks and although I have seen a few involving gambrel roofs, none have actually covered this. I will say however, that your videos have helped me immensely. Thanks again. - Keith

Which products reduce noise from airplane flyovers the most? My general understanding from other sound deadening / noise reduction products is that the heavier the material the more noise reduction you get. (30 lbs felt paper or a heavy synthetic like Owens Corning Titanium UDL 50) seem like they'd do a better job than lighter, thinner underlayment). Most of the new synthetic underlayments seem to advertise more benefits to the installers than the home brewers from what I've been reading.

Honestly the "wrong way" he showed looked a lot better than the correct way. I don't see why you couldn't make that work by having some foam closure strips behind where the two pieces meet or hit the back side of the seam with some foam sealant to fix the leak problem. Especially on a barn shed or something that isn't a house.
