A Guy Named Carl (Carl Cranke, off-road motorcycle legend)

3 жыл бұрынIn the spring of 2013 off-road motorcycle legend, ISDT Gold Medalist and AMA Hall of Fame racer, Carl Cranke was interviewed for the feature documentary film PENTON: The John Penton Story narrated by Grammy Winner, Lyle Lovett.
It was the first time Producer/Director Todd Huffman had met Carl but soon felt like he had known him all his life. Funny, serious and a wonderful storyteller.
The following was unfortunately cut from the final film but was part of 40+ minutes of “Deleted Scenes” from the film that was shown at the 50th anniversary event in 2018 celebrating the first Penton’s coming to America in 1968. It will be polished up and included in a soon-to-be release of those deleted scenes.
For now, we wanted to share this rough edit because on November 14, 2020, the world of motorcycling lost Carl Cranke and we wanted those of you who knew Carl and didn’t know him, learn a little more about this great man.

Great video...I was 17 in 1975 when my brother bought a Penton Mint 400. I had a Puch 175 at the time, and my brother got my started in East Coast Enduros. I read everything I could on the ISDT's and remember reading an article on Carl, it might have been in Cycle magazine. It seems at the time of the article Carl was riding a Mint 400. When my brother moved away, his Mint 400 stayed at my Mom's house. The temptation was too great...I had to take it out and pretend I was Carl Cranke! Godspeed Carl.

Carl was a great tuner. His shop Cycle Speed sponsored Lackey in his early days. He also made bitchen down pipes for side pipe Cz's that we bought in the day. Really bummed when I heard he'd passed. This is a nice tribute. Thanks. God speed Carl Cranke...
