Thanks for sharing, Mike. It's always a pleasure to hear your stories. Regarding the question; I would have spent more time understanding pipe shapes. My all time favorites are cutties and petite pipes, they fit my lifestyle. And for tobacco blends, I wish I would have only bought an ounce at a time, now I have so much of some blends that I don't enjoy even after aging. Live and learn, se la vie! Thanks again for sharing, and good luck with your canoe trip! Best, Charlie

I would have started with a medium or higher quality tobacco/blend and "worked down" to the cheaper stuff (knowing more what to expect). Starting with the cheap stuff can ruin the entire experience - but that's what we all do when we're young and poor.

One thing I would do different is not be so swayed by reviews and offers. Early on, every time I heard somebody say "this is the best tobacco ever" or a limited edition would come out, I'd buy it. Now I'm more careful to look at the blends, the descriptions, and stick with the basics of what I like. Glad to hear about the upcoming trip!

Good afternoon Mike. I haven't been smoking a pipe all that long. I started smoking cigars in 1998 after receiving one as a birthday gift and with that said, I wish I had started pipe smoking back then. Don't get my wrong, I still enjoy a good cigar, but I enjoy my pipes and different pipe tobaccos a lot more (and more often). I always enjoy hearing your stories, take care my friend.

Hiyas Mike mate, I was an avid canoer, from my boy scout years into my early twenties! Marriage and children brought an end to all that. I retain great memories of the pure freedom and beautiful silence of being out on the water, be it lake or river. Be an old Norseman, i just know that my ancestors were rowers on the powerful & swift Viking ships. 😊. The only thing i would change in my piping history would have been to buy and cellar McClellan tobacco blends. Otherwise, I am contented with my journey. KPO 🥃🍺 G

I bought my first pipe in 2006 at Iwan Reis while on a business to Chicago. I crashed and burned. If I knew then what I know now, I would have been smoking a pipe for 19 years by now. I would have bought more estate pipe and would have learned how to restore them. I also would have looked for a certain maker (Dunhill, Peterson, etc.), to collect. Parsimonious Piper (Ethan), collects Pipes by Lee. He has a fantastic collection. I also would have planned a monthly trip to Bartlesville to have a pipe with you.

Mike love your intro. I haven't been canoeing in a really long time. Sold my aluminum canoe because it was too heavy and with my back issues it wasn't a good idea to carry it around. I have been looking into a lighter one recently. I have quite a few of those Bass Pro fishing shirts myself they are very cool and comfortable. I also got a new Tilly hat this year.
