That might have been one of those really strong sling shot due to not hearing the pop from the gun. A strong sling shot can make that noise we all can hear but either way that could take a life so good choice. I would have left also and find a different fishing hole. Glad you didnt get hit. Had a similar thing in bush in Australia Hunters shooting in our direction, the laud behind a huge log for an hour. Also had navy shell over us while surfing

If that was a bullet, the shooter was REALLY far since there was no report from the rifle, so it was probably just a random shot that had nothing to do with you that just happen to land there. Or of course the person could have been using a sound suppressor, but don't really see the reason for that...

I had a screaming bright yellow backpack, his was bright red, and he had an orange knit cap. We laid down for a while, no more shots. WTH?
