Preston is wrong about much more than half of what he puts out. No magic in Westeros? David Lightbringer would debunk that nonsense in ten seconds.

Nah, Daenerys being trueborn and (F)Aegon being known by most magical/prophetic people as a "Mummer's Dragon" has me thinking it's gotta be her to win this one. The true Female Heir over the false Male Heir, whereas the first time around, the female heir was the one who had bastards and the male heir was the legitimate one with the symbols backing him

Ok I dislike the stone dragon interpretation. Just seems a stretch to me. I think Aegon is the stone dragon. The irony is that Connington's pride once again leads him to destroy what he loves best, this time by infecting Aegon with grayscale. But Shireen lived her life on Dragon stone and the magic of the place protected her. Aegon will take refuge there and the advance of the disease will be slowed. Sacrifice will make up the rest.

Baelor definitely stands out; he doesn't even have a powerful name. If you look 0:21 at all the rest of the Targaryen kings, none of their names have L or B. He definitely feels like the weakest king since Aenys. I think GRRM was incisive in that the full impact of the Dance of dragons didn't hit the Targaryens during the time of the war. That trauma passed on to the next generation, Aegon III, who presided over a lot of the winnowing of his family's power, from the deaths of their dragons to the way he let his sons run amok. It's interesting that both Daeron and Baelor had delusions of grandeur and were really basic, but chose divergent paths. Under different circumstances, they might have combined their loves of conquest and religion to lead like a Faith militant-infused holy crusade to conquer Dorne. But thanks to their upbringing, they clearly weren't tight like that or smart enough.

Also it's a good thing this Aegon didn't have access to dragons, might not have ended well.

Not having mature adult role models might explain why his lack of self control. Thanks Viserys!! You allowed a civil war in your midst to leave your descendants without any adults to supervise them. 👏

Well you know maybe Dany not going to Asshai might be the critical mistake she makes similar to Ned telling Sersy about her kids that we will later call her mistake that causes her to fail in westeros

Honestly I think Aegon may have been telling the truth the entire time about Daeron. Nobody believed him because nobody liked him and everyone liked Daeron. Remember histroy doesnt remember BLOOD it remembers NAMES. Because Daeron was given the name Targaryen despite possibly being a bastard and having literally NO WAY of proving one way or the other means its hard to remove the name Targaryen from him. Meanwhile Daemon chooses to Name himself Blackfyre which ends up creating a Narrative that the Blackfyres are these "Others" and aren't equal to Targaryens despite both Daeron (bastard or not) and Daemon having Targaryens as both their Mother and Father. They both are 100% Targaryen and it would be totally GRRM if the Seven Kingdoms this entire time hated and had Bias against bastards mostly becauze of the Blackfyres only for the readers to find out that Daeron and Daemon were BOTH bastards with Daemon being the actual heir

The young and old line is about their ancestry. Daenerys is a Targaryen (the old dragons) and Aegon is a Blackfyre (the new dragons)

I think we're forgetting an obvious parallel of Black and Green. Jon on the Green Rhaegal, and Dany on the Black Drogon. History repeating. Another dance of Blacks and Greens where the Green is the male claimant, and the Black is the female claimant.

Personally, I don't think the Targaryen madness comes from incest but rather is the result of "blood magic", the same I propose was responsible for allowing them to tame and control dragons, when it becomes too thin. Aerys II was the byproduct of two half-Blackwoods as his parents, Jaehaerys II and Queen Shaera were born to Aegon V and Queen Betha Blackwood. Aegon V was born a half-Dayne as Maekar I was married to Princess Dyanna Dayne. Maekar I was born a half-Martell as his father was Daeron II and Queen Myriah Martell Daeron II was the byproduct of the last truly incestuous marriage in the family, as his father Aegon IV was married to Naerys Targaryen. I will also note that while Aegon IV and Naerys were technically half-Rogare, the Rogares were of Valyrian descent despite being Lyseni, thus supporting the theory somewhat that the Targaryen insanity came about after many generations of marrying non-Valyrian families. I honestly feel like it was something worth looking into even if it isn't anything more than a theory and something not meant to be looked at seriously. I just find it ironic that some of the finer examples that we see of the Targaryen madness comes from members of the family who came after generations of admixture and admittedly were not pureblood Targaryens but half as we see with Princes Rhaegel (half-Martell) and Aerion (half-Dayne) and kings such as Aerys II (half-Blackwood) and Baelor I (minor example as he was one quarter-Harte through his maternal grandmother)

So, a theory and an impression: Theory: Baelor had dragon dreams that foretold that his wife Daena's son would be a problem for the realm and the dynasty. He locked her away in the Maidenvault without realising she could escape and get pregnant. The dreams never showed her the boy's father. He may also have been privy to the Conqueror's dragon dream (or maybe he had the same dream). The supposed knowledge that his son would bring terrible things to the realm led him to be chaste and take refuge in his faith, ultimately being pious so as to appease his gods. This also led to him choosing not to father sons nor daughters, so as to let the throne go to his uncle's side of the family, thus averting the prophecy. Of course, prophecy's a double-edged sword... Ultimately, when Daena got pregnant, he didn't panic. But when he saw she had a son (and a Targaryen-looking son at that), he fasted so hard he unlived himself. Also, an impression: when Viserys II got to the throne, he sought to skip Aegon IV in the succession, which ultimately forced Aegon to murder him. I partially agree with your point about Aegon being able to do many things as a prince, but he also did many things during his reign that wouldn't have been possible if he hadn't been king.

No matter which one of them has the throne, their sole focus is holding onto it at any cost. They have zero interest in utilizing the taxes they gather to better the lives of the people. They only want to maintain their hedonistic and totally unaccountable lifestyles.

Viserys should’ve made Rhaenyra his Hand when she was old enough. It would’ve kept her at court, allowed her to rule in his place when his health started failing, and also allowed her to overhaul the Small Council and put her own supporters in place. Sure there’s never been a female Hand but there’s also never been a female Monarch. She could’ve left Jace in charge of Dragonstone to give him a symbol of legitimacy since it’s where the heir rules until they ascend the throne, plus it would be better in the hands of a Targaryen instead of a castellan who could likely turn traitor. People might start saying Jace’s claim precedes his mom’s like with Rhaenys and Laenor but given his age and the fact that Rhaenyra would’ve been ruling for years by the time Viserys died, plus the whole bastard thing, it would be somewhat unlikely to result in a rift between them. Leaving some loyal older dragonriders with him like Daemon and Rhaenys could also help should Dragonstone come under siege or Jace needed help but I think Rhaenyra would want Daemon in KL with her since Caraxes is undoubtedly their strongest dragon and they need the capital secure against Vhagar

Blood magic is all about sacrifice, and I think that's the terrible secret to what happened at Summerhall. Aegon V and his pyromancers had researched all remaining Valyrian dargon lore, magic, etc and worked out that it wasn’t just fire and blood that was needed but a blood sacrifice of someone that was beloved to the caster. The greater the sacrifice the greater the reward. The legend of Azor Ahai and Nisa Nisa practically spells it out explicitly and Daenerys's sacrifice not just of Miri Mazdur but of Khal Drogo, and in a round about way, her unborn son confirms it. Aegon called together his entire family, all of the blood of the dragon, and intended to sacrifice some of them as part of the ritual. Likely seven for the seven eggs he wished to hatch. Ser Duncan likely stopped him by releasing them. That's why the few that survived never spoke about what took plsce as Aegon V had been so beloved and everyone that was there was deeply traumatized.

Aegon Should have set the precedent of incest with Meager. ( sentence I would not have thought id ever write) But could have strong armed the faith, maybe by creating a faith of the dragon. What would they have done, and it would have nipped it right away and tied his two lines.
