I loved San Francisco in the 80s. The homosexual were just exploring their political power after the _Harvey Milk_ incident. They didn't hope for meaningful change, they were doing it. There was the commodities market and that crowd, lots of overlap I must add. And then all the people necessary to operate a major city. Blue to white collar riding the same cable cars and getting off not far from each other. But it was always the creatives. Some of the best rock-n-roll bands came out of San Francisco at the time. The music scene what every other city claimed they had. The numerous universities dominated the cultural scene. Music, opera, concerts in very genre you can name, they had it. Plays with wild variety in budgets (The cheap ones were the best) and musicals from the oldest written the so new the ink smudged on the scripts at the soft opening. Yeah they had weirdos like every place else. But Bay area weirds were special. The neighborhood were like small towns. Everybody knew everybody else. Even with all the political infighting the city ran surprisingly well. Was it perfect? No, Not quite. But it was a damned site closer than it is today. I certainly hope it gets back to that.

I so much admire opera singers. They work so hard to master their art.
