Hi, great video! Is there a way to add a pleat to the back panel without increasing the sweep?
@HouseofMissSew11 күн бұрын
@@andreabrenk3862 hi Thank you ☺️ Sorry, I’m not sure I understand what you mean by sweep?
@andreabrenk386211 күн бұрын
@@HouseofMissSew Sorry, I meant without also increasing the hem? I have a shirt pattern that I’d like to add a yoke into but I really like how the bottom hem lays as it is. I’m worried it will be too full if I increase everything
@HouseofMissSew10 күн бұрын
@@andreabrenk3862 you could add a triangle type wedge to the centre back instead of a rectangle. Extend the line at the top of the back, where the yoke is attached, from the centre back out to the left by the measurement of the pleat. Square down to half way down the back and then taper back in to the centre back line. This will avoid excess fabric at the hem. Hope that helps

How much seam allowance does this use? I'm thinking none?
@HouseofMissSew13 күн бұрын
There is a slight overlap of the fabric in the seam, so the seam allowance taken is the width of the overlocking stitch. In this case approximately 6mm.

Clear and nicely produced video, Julia. It may not be called a Hong Kong seam, but would it be more durable if you retained the folded edge on the back side of the bias tape? Am I correct that bias tape slightly wider on one side to allow a stitch in the ditch in the front to catch the tape on the back?
@HouseofMissSew20 күн бұрын
Hi - thank you for your feedback. Yes, you can keep the extra fold on the bias binding and this would make for a more durable finish. I’d just call this a ‘bound seam’. You can finish this by hand for an invisible finish or by machine where you either top stitch the binding, or stitch in the ditch using the method you describe. I did have videos on these but they weren’t very good and I need to recreate them. ☺️ Some binding tapes are folded with one edge wider than the other to make the application easier but not all are created in this way. The idea of the Hong Kong seam is that removing the extra fold of binding reduces the bulk on the seam. ✂️☺️❤️

Thank you for refreshing my memory. I wanted the measurements of your pocket template but needed it right now (being too lazy to dig out a commercial pattern), so I used 16 x 40 cm and guessed where the slit would be. It was for a man's casual jacket. Pocket is great, my placement of the slit on pocket fabric- not so great::)

Thank you so much for this video! I’ve always cut before making the hem and my machine would grab the threads of the chiffon and bunch them, making the dress look terrible. Does this technique stop that?
@HouseofMissSew29 күн бұрын
I’ve tried both ways and it’s much easier to cut after you’ve stitched. You have more control over the fabric and it’s easier to handle. I think this method would avoid the bunching that you describe 🤞🤞

is this the only machine (domestic) that can do a double overstitch? I was looking at my manual but I don't believe Juki 1500 can do that or a Bernette Funlock B 48
@HouseofMissSewАй бұрын
There are a couple of other domestic machines which offer the top coverstitch option: Janome 1200D and Janome CoverPro 3000. These are the only ones I’m aware of. It’s not possible on the Juki or Bernette.
@ashley0921Ай бұрын
Thank you for quick response! I never thought about the double stitch until your video. I already have 2 machines. Oh well... guess flat locking my only option. Thanks!
