Jerry Siegel also wrote some UK comics including The Spider, a character who was supposed to the world's greatest criminal even though he never commited any crimes.

What is Enid Coleslaw an anagram for?

I'm assuming you're asking for real so I'm gonna answer straight. Enid Coleslaw is an anagram for Daniel Clowes, the author of Ghost World. When you have a comic character with a name as weird as Enid Coleslaw it becomes instantly apparent that it's meant to be an anagram of something, in this case the creator himself. DC and Marvel comics used to pull this trick all the time with supervillains disguising their names and it was always painfully obvious and made the heroes look like complete idiots for not noticing. A character in a Superman comic called "Dr Holurt". Who could that possibly be?? There was an Avengers storyline with a politician called "Dell Rusk" and there was even a Legion issue with a mysterious guy called "Lord Romdur". I don't think I need to explain who any of those guys actually were.

Blue Devil and Crisis were the impetus of my $40 a month DC dedication for six coming-of-age years. Sadly, those days are long gone. Now the extent of my budget is purchasing an overpriced Back to the Future poster. Flare, who possessed fiery (yawn) power, and Caress, who produced acid from her hands, were the replacements in the Fatal Five. I'm brainstorming here, but perhaps Giffen's drastic art change would be an interesting subject to talk about. Another enjoyable podcast, D&D.

I kinda get the point that Gary J. Harris was making in regards to showing more of the Legion's involvement in Crisis. They wouldn't even have had to have any time travel in the story since the Anti-Monitor's anti-matter wave didn't just appear in the 20th century, it simultaneously appeared in all eras of the DC universe including the 30th century, and it almost destroyed the Legion's Earth (that's when Kid Psycho died) before the heroes in the past destroyed the Anti-Monitor's anti-matter cannon.

That opening discussion about the Brown/Matt/Seth crew was great. Seth definitely seems like the less problematic of the trio. At least he didn't build a career out of indulging in his own sexual deviances and then writing about it. At least as far as I know.

I blame Mike DeCarlo for the underwhelming art in this issue. When he became the regular inker on the Teen Titans I ended up dropping that title because his inks made even the legendary George Perez look bad.

I think she is supposed to be wearing an aerobic onesie under the jacket. Goes with the sweatband. Apparently Kieth saw a total babe rollerblading in this gear at like Long Beach or something and liked the look. I think its just supposed to show she has body confidence but also was prob fun to draw. I adore Laurel Gand.

Regarding discovering Giffen's art - I was very impressed with his Perez style when I discovered LoSh issues when I was in junior high. When Giffen took on his Munoz style, I was in high school and unknowingly ready for more experimental-looking comics. March Hare, Hell on Earth, the Doctor Fate miniseries, and any guest-star issues in which he did the interior art were all insta-buys for me based on his artwork. Surely there's a Giffen checklist for interiors? I wasn't aware of that JLI issue with Suicide Squad. I'll need to hunt down a copy. Thanks for another great listen, guys.

I'm so glad I found this channel! I really thought that in this issue, some of those Rejects should really be considered. I love that Calorie Queen was brought back in the 5 Years Later story. I think the others just joined the Legion of Super Villains? Well, with the exception of Phantom Lad. Wonder if he was used again? Boy, a lot of the Legion villains all stem from being rejected by the Legion. I wonder if that was a strong reason for the formation of the Legion Academy. Not bad for a quick 11-page story!

These issues were my first exposure to Keith Giffen's artwork. At the time, his style felt very much like George Perez and I loved both. I was about 14 years old and bought my friend's LoSh issues from him at about a dime a piece. Loved the artwork. I was in junior high at the time and when High school rolled around, Giffen went full-blown Jose Munoz with March Hare and Hell on Earth and I loved that style, too! Really enjoying your channel, guys. Thanks!

Another great review, D&D. Too bad this issue is a good example of a bad example on racism. You can't say DC didn't try, but maybe they could've hired some black writers at the time. I believe Marzal was updated as only revealing itself every 300 years, which still isn't a solution to total, absolute segregation. If all kinds of aliens are on Earth, then aren't all our people on their worlds too, including different races? Strangely enough Tyroc, along with a few dead Legionnaires, make a tangential appearance in my story when IKII (Jacques) is tripping balls on a mushroom and also under the murderous, egomaniacal influence of a cursed dagger. Dyno-Mite! Another parallel between this tale and mine is that I rename BB Ricochet, mostly because he isn't a boy anymore. Natch!

The reason they still used "Boy/Girl/Lad/Lass" names was explained in a story where they established that due to extension of life expectancy in the 30th Century. Due to that people in their 30s and 40s are still considered children.

The reason that Loomis lost his arm and Rokk lost his powers is due to a weapon that the Imskites deployed during the war. It turned the Brallians magnetic abilities against them. It caused them to either explode or stripped them of their magnetic abilities. Vi was sent to prison for objecting to the use of the weapon.

Hey, D&D! Dan and David/Dungeon & Dragons-- coinkadink? Thanx for giving me another free comic to read while you banter and espouse hilarious commentary. Another silly looking alien creature? Organus from Uranus? Levitz is great but what was he smoking? I was gladdened to see the Legionnaires playing D&D on their downtime. As you can tell I'm a huge fan. However, I don't think Brainy would have the slightest interest in playing games. Shouldn't he be curing viruses or something? True that D&D is mostly just storytelling with a few dice rolls thrown, but as a player you get amped when a battle starts. The long running joke "above table" is that a three hour walk takes five mins while a five minute battle takes three hours. Of course, if it's played online and computerized it's going to be loads faster in the 30th Century. I suggest you watch Critical Role if you want to watch gorgeous women roll the dice. If that's not your thing then there's also an animated Legend of Vox Machina series. Peace out! And... Long Live the Legion!
