Your timing (pun intended) is pure genius with this post as I'm just renewing focusing on my this type of practice. Love Steve Down. I wish he wasn't so busy and could post more. Thanks so much for another inspiring, practical lesson. The 12 bar blues is pure gold.

@@ashishashen I signed up for a year as it was very reasonable. And even though he hasn't posted much over the course of the year, there's a treasure of great lessons on there to explore. Your video reminded me to use a standalone metronome. There are some great phone apps but it's good to keep my head out of the phone while practicing. Cheers!

In 1985, I brought a AS 200. I was going to get a 335, but was balking at the price. The salesman suggested I tried the Ibanez, which I ended up buying, as well as a small champ and it was still cheaper than the 335. I still have the AS 200, my forever guitar.

Thanks for sharing. I’m still looking for a decent AS 200. That’s what Scofield plays and played all his life. I couldn’t find one locally so ended up getting the JSM. One day, I hope. ✌️

Thanks again for this follow up lesson. I am really enjoying this series. It's at a good level of challenge and doable (sweet spot). Great edge of breakup tone on that les Paul. I think you have an I/O device which might be really helping (that and the tone is in the hands, right?).

It does not matter if your an average guitarist or not. If you can afford and you appreciate the feel and handle of a great instrument, just go for it. That's a rock machine that's also brilliant for jazz. A masterpiece.

Great lesson that I need to heed its message - repeat mottifs and play less. Do you recommend practicing with a metronome? I like the backing track but I also like the idea of just playing it self accompanied (like kenny Burrell chitlins con carne)
@ashishashen
@ashishashen 28 күн бұрын
Definitely. Especially true for Kenny's stuff as there is a lot of rhythm in his solos and he comps in between the spaces. I've been practicing "midnight blue" lately. Another classic from Kenny. And it is a lot of fun to play with a metronome.

Just curious, how many guitars do you have? I've never been one to have more than a couple up until the pandemic hit, then I got into buying and selling them a little. Currently sitting at 3 acoustics and 6 electrics myself. Could easily go down to 3 and 3 though.
@ashishashen
@ashishashen Ай бұрын
Yeah, I had a similar experience. During the pandemic, I started accumulating amps, guitars and what not. These days, I'm slowly getting rid of things that I don't use and I know were impulsive decisions. Currently, I have 4 electric guitars and 2 acoustics. One of the acoustics has sentimental value, so I'll keep it forever, just like this Les Paul. I can easily go down to 2 electric, 1 acoustic and 1 amp. Now, it's more about playing, learning, composing and I don't feel the impulsive need to acquire new gear. I don't even watch new gear reviews anymore 😅. Getting wiser I guess. 🤷
