Can you tell me where we can get our mitochondria sequenced? Thank you 🙏
@MasterHomebrew Жыл бұрын
For those who are suffering from Mitochondria issues and want to be tested for it you can find information on how to do that from the United Mitochondria Disease Foundation aka UMDF. They have support groups and list of doctors and may even offer some genetic testing.

Maybe I'm missing something but I thought the endosymbiosis was between methanogens and a-proteobacteria?
@uploads20513 жыл бұрын
Purple sulphur bacteria are a sup-group of photosynthetic proteobacteria. In the case of mitochondrial endosymbiosis we can be more specific and identify Purple Sulphur Bacteria as being the likely proto-mitochondrion rather than being more general and talking about proteobacteria as a group. I am not sure where methanogens come into this process.
@karinamariapiotrowska55053 жыл бұрын
@@uploads2051 To clarify, I meant that, since the archezoan hypothesis has been discredited, I assumed that an archeal methanogen host was the most probable solution. However, thank you for your explanation on purpule sulfur bacteria- it was very helpful.

Very insightful video! Data skills will become even more so important in the future, as sequencing becomes cheaper and penetrates in all life sciences! Every biomedical researcher should get some basic knowledge in this, to efficiently communicate with bioinformaticians!
@DaN3xtEconomist5 жыл бұрын
Hey. Is bioinformatics only limited to genes, etc. or can i also apply it to environmental science?
@Biomeducated4 жыл бұрын
You could use it! At least that's what I deduct from reading 'what is environmental science' on WikiPedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_science). You could sequence for instance the transcriptome of bees now, and compare within 10 years to check global warming effects or something. Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that integrates physical, biological and information sciences (including ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, plant science, zoology, mineralogy, oceanography, limnology, soil science, geology and physical geography (geodesy), and atmospheric science) to the study of the environment, and the solution of environmental problems.
