Unfortunately, even if you tell people that you have a "no smoking" policy, they'll still do it (but they'll just try to cover it up). This might be less so in states where there's still criminal charges for it, but in Virginia it's legal so now I feel like it smells like weed everywhere 😅 At this point, I expect it to come back smoked in about 25% of the time and that I'll be reimbursed for it after the trip.

Deny and deflect. Not our problem. You didn't wash it after driving it. Tesla's response. Come on. If you buy first generation anything it's risky. But this thing is beyond that. I've watched reviews that tout how fun it is to drive. So is a Porsche. But you don't typically hall tools and other items in one. This is a truck with a lot of big promises. aka. If it's too good to be true.... I'm pretty certain some Cyber Truck purchasers would have jumped into investing with Bernie Madoff and then bragged about being part of a by invitation only and exclusive investment group. Only to learn, it's a sham.

Yeah unfortunately only time will tell how this one turns out (and it's certainly not off to a great start). And as for your statement on Bernie Madoff, that probably has a good amount of truth to it. As while his scheme did affect a lot of people, it was almost exclusively people who thought they were on the "in" that lost the largest portion of their overall wealth.

@ZayTson
@ZayTson 4 ай бұрын

@ZayTson The second one. You can leave a surgical grade stainless steel scalpel out in the rain for as long as you want, it will never see a spot of rust. That being said, surgical grade stainless steel isn't driven hard through salt and sand and all kinds of corrosive elements. And Cyber Trucks aren't made from SGSS.

Cheap stainless has less chromium. Less chromium means less of a chromium oxide layer protecting the steel itself from oxidizing/rusting.
@ZayTson

@@iambiggus I see that does make sense. Do you think that's something that Tesla would be able to implement later on in updated models/editions of the CyberTruck? Or is it something that's so cost prohibitive, that even with Tesla's economies of scale it wouldn't really be feasible?
@ZayTson
@ZayTson 4 ай бұрын
@@rickitynick4463 Do you think that's by design (due to the engineering requirements needed for their molding/steel bending production process) or due to cost? I would think that if it was a slight increase in cost, it wouldn't be that big of an issue since the price of the truck has gone up so much anyway. However, if it's for manufacturing purposes, that would make more sense.

When I went to welding school I remember my instructor talking about a time when they were to weld on something made of stainless steel. They used the right stainless steel rods, everything went fine. A few days later, their client called and asked why was a part of the weld already rusting stainless steel was used. Turns out, that the wire wheel used to clean up the weld wasn't stainless steel and caused two dissimilar metals to undergo something called galvanic corrosion.

Well if you listen to some of the interviews that have been done, Elon definitely said he took inspiration for the design from his son. Depending on quality of stainless, but it does rust a little bit, no where near like regular metal though. Comes off easy, you get most early on, then it lays off. If you want long term prediction of how this will go talk to DeLoreon owners, those are stainless too, never seen a rusted one. I think this is being blown way out of proportion by attention seeking people. Wired choice for car body, stainless is heavy but hard to dent compared to aluminum.... but heavy.

I thought of the DeLorean too when the CyberTruck was first announced. Do you think it has anything to do with the specific manufacturer process that Tesla might have used that's causing this to occur right away? Or do you think it might be due to something that was done to the Stainless steel that was used in the DoLorean making it more resistant?

Just for clarity, are you saying that the stainless steel body panels aren't actually rusting but it's metal particles from the environment that are leaving that corrosive residue? Also, do you think it would be best for me to apply a clearcoat or liquid wrap to the body panels of the vehicle to prevent or at least mitigate the risk?

I thought everyone DETAILED their vehicle, every time they looked at it. If you don't notice a speck of rust before wrapping, you can get a big surprise when you remove the wrap. Make sure all is good, before you do. (I would also recommend wrapping or a PPF)
@ZayTson

Definitely not everyone lol And yeah that's what I'm worried about. I'll probably have a clear coat done, followed up by a liquid wrap afterwards.
@nanomage
@nanomage 4 ай бұрын
Stainless steel is not rust proof, never has been, it just takes slightly longer to form. A wrap will likely just hide the problem as grime and moisture will still find ways to come into contact with the unprotected metal and you may have more severe corrosion damage when the wrap comes off. Best solution is probably to do what all other car manufacturers do, apply paint and/or a clear coat to protect the bare metal, if you are in love with the brushed metal finish there are matte clear coats available that would seal in the bare metal and also radically reduce the need for constant cleaning recommended in the manual.
@ZayTson
@ZayTson 4 ай бұрын
Agreed, the main problem is that Tesla claimed it would be rust/corrosion resistant, which currently seems to not be the case (or at the very least not as resistant as they were leading us to believe). And 100% I plan to get the CyberTruck liquid wrapped. As I believe that would provide the most robust protection against any sort of rust/corrosion forming. And I agree with you on the clear coat aspect. I'm speaking with a few people who specialize in that to see if they think it would be better to do a clear coat and then liquid wrap it, or it that would be redundant/overkill.
@nanomage
@nanomage 4 ай бұрын
@@ZayTson If you do go down the clear coating road just make sure the paint shop that you do business with actually remove all the plastic cladding from the vehicle, thereby allowing the coat to properly cover all the edges. Once the truck is coated liquid wrapping it would just be like doing so with any other consumer vehicle. As for Teslas statements I'm well over their sales pitch language by now, they have a pretty long history of promising one thing and delivering another at this point.
@gbprime2353
@gbprime2353 4 ай бұрын
Which begs the question... why didn't Tesla use a matte clear coat in the first place? You're paying a lot for this vehicle, taking a shammy cloth to it after every drive shouldn't be a requirement!

@@nanomage Okay thanks for the advice, I'll definitely bring that up if I have it done. I had to have the clear coat redone on car's hood and roof, but definitely not the entire vehicle (so I appreciate that). And yeah their track record for promises isn't the best, and TBH that's why our first Tesla is going to be the CyberTruck. I was thinking that they would have had ample resources/bandwidth to rework this sort of issue given the time that they've had since the initial reveal, but here we are...😅

@@gbprime2353 I'm actually surprised that they didn't offer that as a possible solution/feature, especially since they announced that they would offer wraps directly from Tesla (I'm only speculating, but I would assume they announced that because they realized that this was an ongoing issue with the CyberTruck prototypes).

It is unfortunate...I have a few specialty vehicles in our rental fleet that are 15-20+ years old with no signs of rust at all, so for this to be something that is coming up already for a brand new vehicle is concerning TBH. That said, I still plan to get one to use as a "Marketing Billboard" of sorts for our fleet but I'm hoping they come out with some sort of coating (whether that's aftermarket or other-wise) to resolve or at the very least mitigate the issue for a few years.

I think most people who understand the basics of how metal responds to different real world conditions would agree. The problem is that Tesla claimed that it would be rust/corrosion resistant and for it to have just been released and they're already experience issues is the fundamental problem. (TBH I can see if it happened a couple of years later, I think that would adequately justify the "resistant" claim, but for it to only be a matter of weeks is concerning).

What kind of issues did you have with the Fiat 500?

The issue that we're having is that the shift link cable keeps breaking/coming undone (when that happens you can't shift the car out of the current gear. So if you're in drive it won't shift to park, and vice versa). It's not a expensive fix, you can get it done for about $80-$100. But unfortunately, it happens without warning, so while not expensive it's definitely inconvenient to deal with (the last time it happened was in October and it just happened again this past week. So we're actually exploring options to see if we can just install a permanent aftermarket fix instead of replacing it with an OEM cable again). Hopefully that helps!

Hi would you recommend this over a cash car? I have a 2010 Altima on Turo making 400-450 month, I was considering another cash car but I like the idea of a new suv woth 10/100 warranty
@ZayTson
@ZayTson 11 ай бұрын
It honestly depends on your specific market. If I was in your position would do some market research to see how many SUVs are in my market, how much they rent out for, and how often. As that'll give you a good idea of whether or not it'll make sense financially. Plus it depends on how low of an interest rate you can get, because that'll eat up all your profit if it's too high. Also, for your cash car, is that 400-450 net or gross profit? Are you renting it out consistently or just occasionally? Because if that's your gross profit for renting it out consistently, then you might want to tweak your listing a bit in order and get a higher profit (That is of course if you actually want to rent it out more though). As I do have a few cash cars as well, and as an example I have a 2011 Ford Focus that I just added onto Turo in April this year and it's brought in $3,493 so far (so about $1K per month gross profit). Hopefully this helps!👍🏽
