How would you create an unsorted "inbox" for example for new singel masterclasses or something that is not sorted in the richt bucket yet?
@PKM_Beth
@PKM_Beth 3 күн бұрын
I just use an inbox tag that I pin to my sidebar. I tag anything I'm not ready to review yet with #inbox and I go through it about once a week.

Would you have class notes (Masterclasses, courses, memberships etc) also in the Media type? And how would you structure that when you have a lot of them?
@PKM_Beth

Yes I used to put lecture notes as media objects, and I tagged them with #lecture/#course etc. It's perfectly ok to separate them too. Happy to give more concrete advice on this or any other questions at [email protected] :)

Is there a way to "archive" the object types that is no longer relevant? Or grouping object types together? As f.ex the object types you cannot edit. So the left side menu do not get so cluttered?

No archiving, I just drag unused object types to the bottom on the sidebar.

Beth, 1. how is an object type different than a template in Obsidian? Both have predefined attributes and you can create new entries based on the structure? 2. Why use collections when you can achieve the same exact thing with a tag? Thanks!
@PKM_Beth
@PKM_Beth 13 күн бұрын
Object types have a lot of flexibility, from the properties applied, to the page layout, to the default way your links to an object of that type look (e.g. always embed quotes as small cards). I find this a much fuller approach to thinking in types and it's what sold me on Capacities in 2022. I found obsidian templates just looked after the words on the page, rather than how that page looks/how I interact with it elsewhere. It's been a long time since I played with Obsidian templates though, so that may have changed! I think there's real value in creating subgroups of objects (e.g all English kings, all French people) and it's easier to maintain them than having 500 tags, because they're already sorted by object type. If collections help you dive deeper, tags let you bring things together from anywhere. I enjoy the separation in use cases, but that doesn't mean everyone will.

I do not recommend using this application. I've been experiencing instability for two days, everything simply disappeared. I've restarted the browser and installed the app and nothing. Worst of all, without realizing it I created an account with the same email as last time and the tool simply accepted it. How can an application create two accounts with the same email? It is an application with critical errors and low confidence

Thank you for opening up our minds to what can be done in this great app. I recently came across a YTer that created a "forever journal" in apple notes. I really liked the idea. I can imagine that their is an easy way to do that in Capacities but I am not sure how. Can you provide any insight? ref: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7mmZal7r7uue5s.html. The key thing that appeals to me is to me able to see past journal entries naturally arise each day. If you show me a way to do this I will move all of my journal entries that are all over the place into one central location.
@PKM_Beth
@PKM_Beth Ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Because Capacities is centred around a calendar, you can go to any day in the past or future and begin a daily note. If you want multiple journal entries per date, create a 'journal' object type with a date property. That will give you a button to quick add a journal entry from the calendar. The workflow would be to use the mini-calendar on the right hand side to choose a date to write on, click "journal" and get writing. That will automatically fill the date property in too. When you go back to the central calendar after writing one or more journal entries, they will all be visible in that one central calendar page. Check out this video to see some of this in action: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7V5jduTnpzXpGw.htmlsi=T2aWVZTZ_mQvuqOY hope that helps!

Thank you so much for sharing your setup. It is really helping me wrap my head around how I want to set up, which is by Personal Sprints. I like to break my goals and habits into 3 week sprints plus 1 week of retrospective and planning for the next sprint. I break each sprint down into (3) areas of focus - Health and Key Relationships, Quality of Life and Personal Growth and Career. I do have weekly reviews to apply learnings and course corrections and to make sure I’m staying on track. And I maintain a backlog of areas/projects to consider for future sprints. I’m currently using 4 different apps to do this, but a LifeOS would be wonderful!

I'd love to see how your Object Type Goals are connected to your Home Page and other periodic Objects (week/monthly/quarterly). But Capacities just makes so much sense to me that other apps became less interesting in comparison. I'm currently using it for pretty much everything. But I do quick capture in Apple notes, bookmarks in Raindrop, lists in Twos. But I spend the vast majority of my day at home in Capacities :)

Hi Beth! Really interesting video, as always, thanks! I found the Essence idea very relevant and resonated a lot with your motivations about living more consciously by doing this whole Life OS practice. How painful/easy was the transition process from Notion to Capacities ? Did you do all the work manually to transfer your data? And if you were one day to switch to another tool, would Capacities allow enough data ownership and interoperability to do so easily? Also, I think it would be awesome for Capacities to enable object-type inheritance like Tana does, to add specific properties to sub-types as well as grouping types together in parent types (Tana even allows for multiple inheritance). Bon courage dans ton apprentissage du français 😊

Thanks for your comment! Amazing to hear essence resonated with you... I've not moved anything into Capacities yet, I've just started fresh. The export from Notion is a mess and I'm very confused by it, so that's a project in itself. But Capacities allows useful exports into Markdown (settings > backup) which I've done loads of times so I'm happy with that! We have had some requests for inheritance so do upvote the canny ticket if you haven't already so you can stay up to date about it :) capacities.io/feedback/p/sub-databases-inheritance-object-inheritance Et merci beaucoup!!
