If you don't hear a difference between woods you're just deaf. Everything changes the tone, even the number of frets. Even switching from regular to lightweight machines changes the tone. Pickguard or no pickguard. There is a reason why all of the top luthiers have a wood selection process. Not even all the same woods have the same sound. This is just a fact. But I can understand that you don't care or don't listen closely but if you don't hear a difference between fingerboard woods you seriously need to go to an ear doctor.

Epiphone Vintage Pro T-Bird has a different bridge design (like on 60's 'birds but in correct location!), excellent pickups in almost exact '60s positions (which do sound the best). I hope they'll reissue the non-reverse Thunderbird too with that same kind of thoroughness 'cause Gibson didn't.

After playing (and trading) multiple types of basses over the years, my preference is for having two humbuckers. I currently use a Reverend Dub King as my main bass, because the two different humbucker positions and the blend knob do allow for that extra bit of versatility when switching from an aggressive rock tone to a subdued blues or ballad. With that said, my "Drop D" bass is a heavily modded Squier Affinity that has a single music man humbucker in the traditional music man position. I like it a lot (obviously, since I use it every show), but it is more limited in range simple due to the single pickup position.

As a hobby luthier this is why love Gibsons. They're all fucking terrible. Every damn guitar to come out of Gibson fails in some basic way that makes them unpleasant to use. But they sound great. They just make me want to fix all the glaring design flaws. Thunderbird and Firebird both have terrible neck dive, are a mile and a half long so they can't fit into normal cases, and just in general feel really weird to play because the neck is attached so far forward. At the same time they both have incredibly unique tones and the Firebird is actually crazy light for it's size. The Les Paul is a boat anchor with strings attached. Uniquely for Gibsons, it doesn't have neck dive, but that's because the body is half a tree trunk of wood. It's also just really thick and most models have few comfort carves so it can be really uncomfortable for some players when sitting down. The SG is my favorite. Can't stay in tune to save it's life. Can't figure out whether a strong wind should snap the neck at the body joint or headstock, so it just breaks at both. Neck is so thin that just playing the instrument can bend it out of tune (though some people have harnessed this successfully). Oh, and neck dive because neck is joined to the body, OUTSIDE THE BODY! At the same time the SG is the most sold Gibson, has been on countless records since the dawn of it's existence, has featured in practically ever genre, and is actually a guitar that shows up on more recordings that people would think because tuning stability doesn't really matter in the studio. 90% of it's problems would be gone with a better headstock and if it was built as a neck through as it was originally intended to be.

That amp is garbage. Luckily, I have an electronics pro friend with the proper equipment to fix the unintended shut off feature Fender failed to mention. Any great bass guitar work Fender is known for is wiped out if their amps are cheaply made. Go with a company that SPECIALIZES in amps. Marshall, Ampeg, etc. If the company specializes in a different product, then tries to take a piece of the $$$ from another market; DO NOT FALL FOR THAT BULLJIVE! The low price and temporarily loud, good sound, effects, and low weight is to ENTICE newbee suckers looking to save cash! That's all. 🤔

You indirectly said why short scale basses are having a resurgence in the recent years, they are very comfortable, easy to play, easy to transport (heck you can even use a guitar gig bag lol) and they have a unique tone that sounds pretty good for most contexts so a good set up that is comfortable to you is pretty much all you need for them

One thing I've always noticed as a guitarist is that bassists really manipulate the knobs in a way most guitarists don't these days. Bassists are also a lot more open minded than guitarists, willing to try new thing, new basses, multi-scale, beyond four strings, active electronics, solid state amps, etc. I suspect this is in part because electric bass is a younger instrument than electric guitar, but more so because the bass just doesn't attract the kind of rampant, stubborn egos as guitar.

Close but no cigar. Darkglass has cleaner articulation of the notes across the tonal spectrum. Also, the darkglass sounds more aggressive. The Joyo sounds pretty great, but I'd much prefer the darkglass.

I have 2 dream basses, an ibanez sr300E bass, and a sterling stingray 4 HH for my dream intermediate basses. (Basses I plan to buy when I reach intermediate level.) and my dream pro basses are a custom HH pickup configuration stingray from musicman's custom shop, and an ibanez sr premium series bass. (Basses I would get if I reach that skill level.) Currently I use an ibanez grsrm20, a beginner micro bass that even some pros use for gigs. Personally, I never liked any kind of single pickup bass, because I like the versatility of multi-pickup basses. Which is why, I really dislike many kinds of basses aside from ones by Ibanez and the HH's of stingrays from music man. and I love the sounds people get from the basses I listed, so which is honestly why I can recommend if you want a versatile bass, to get a ray bass, and if you don't like sterling, then an ibanez sr bass will be just as versatile. Or, get both, and have an even bigger tonal variety to choose from.

I know I'm late to the party, but how does this compare to the Ibanez Mikro base? I have Mikro that I got second had for $50. I upgraded to a high mass bridge because the stock one rattled but otherwise it's factory. How does it compare aside from the fact that the Micro is a PJ vs. CNZ being a Jazz? 😁

man, i started playing bass because my dad had 2 basses in the attic that were gifted to him and nobody ever played before me, both were aria pro II's, an xrb 2w and an sb 600 both from the 80's. By the way, does anybody know what the switch does on the sb600? it has only one pickup that look like an humbucker but it actually is a reversed p pickup, the only thing the switch seems to do is to make the D and G strings quieter, but the A and E sting sound exactly the same

Since I got my Guild Starfire it has become my go to bass for live playing and couch practice. Great sound when plugged in and loud enough so you can hear yourself and play late at night without waking your wife and kids up😅. Plus the playabilty and feel is second to none. It’s became my favourite bass and main bass for good reason.

It's interesting, I have 3 of the same pedals on my board, the Korg Pitchblack, the MXR BEF, and the Spectra Comp (which I love btw). Your signal chain is really unique, I have the tuner first, followed by the Spectra Comp, which acts more like a buffer than a compressor. Nice vid!

Hey is it possible to insert Zoom B1 Four into this equation? I just bought the pedal thanks to your videos and having a blast with it! My question is can I record myself if I get a Scarlett Solo? Is the output you get from is B1 Four is compatible for Scarlett Solo? Any guidance?

I used to have an early 80s L2000. I thought the controls were too busy, but sweet spots were incredible. It really spoke. Anyway, sold it 35yrs ago because I was poor and needed $. On the phone as we speak closing a deal on a late 80s version. Greatest unknown American made Leo Fender design.

I have a small apartment with many neighbors and the 15 is what I keep at home to kick around. I use headphones on it ALWAYS. Its not fancy, but cheap, small and does what I need. For gigs I use the 500. I've actually never turned it all the way up. I have no clue how loud it actually gets. As for weight - I can carry it with 2 fingers! That was a huge reason I bought it as at the time I didn't have a car and wanted something easy to carry. My only issues with Rumble: I bought it for a basic traditional sound as I converted to upright. If you want a lot of variation buy a modelling amp, Orange or whatever. I didn't. I wanted a simple basic traditional sound, which then I can change with pedals. So if you want a million sounds this is not for you.

When you look at your guitar and see that it's a huge budget bass you are quite underwhelmed. I have a Schecter Stiletto Extreme 5 and love it. I guess it's a mid bass. What's the difference in a begginer, mid, and pro bass?

Hey, hello! I watched some of your videos and i found really interesting that you managed to make your bass sound really close to Geddy Lee's and other bassists' just with the Zoom b1x. It would be great if you made a video on how to sound like Les Claypool, or Justin Chanchellor or other bassists using the Zoom b1. You're doing a great job!

I don’t understand the point of getting mad at what someone else plays lmao I’ve seen some weird instruments, or things that weren’t quite my style, but I’ve enjoyed seeing what people do can with them. To me it’s just another tool in the tool box. I have a 4,5, and 6 string bass, a short travel acoustic guitar, 2 standard 6 string guitars, a 7 string guitar, and few other instruments. I use them all for different things. None are better than the other in a general sense. Some are just more useful or fun in different situations. I have a few different microphones for the same reason.
