Oh! I love that you folks aren’t stingy with the onions! True what you said about using more natural seasoning in this way can cut down on salt usage.🧅❤️❤️❤️

When I was a Scout leader in Corner Brook we would have the kids peal the potatoes at summer camp. No carrot peelers so a lot of square spuds and thick potato skins lol

oh my, I would love to try this. When someone can eyeball out a recipe, then I 100% trust their process. Those onions look deadly with the spuds and cheese. Hope you enjoy!

I cook a lot like you mom, I don't measure unless I'm making something new. My dough boys are made with milk and never remove the lid while they are cooking. 2 tips, save some of the dough about 2 Tbsp. and thin it with milk/water, pour it into the pot to thicken. Also, dip the spoon in the broth before you start putting the dough boys in the broth and that will help keep the dough from sticking to the spoon. When this heat wave is over, I have 2 dishes to make, this recipe and your scalloped potato recipe because I've never tried it with the bacon.

Scalloped potatoes are yummy. It looks delicious. My Italian grandmother was like your mom . Never measured anything. It took my mother years to write down all her mom's recipes. I never had it with bacon but what's not to love...bacon is delicious. It was a delight to have your Mom in the video.

Interesting I was just looking for a good recipe like this. Question for you: at what temperature would you say too bake this at in the oven and for how long or should I slow cook it in my crock pot low and slow and how long would you say? Thank you for sharing. Btw my Dad was born in St John's Newfoundland As a child growing up he always referred to his mom and dad as Mudder & Fadder unfortunately my siblings and I never met them as they passed away before we came along.

Crockpot, I don't know, but my mom's goes in the 350F for an hour and 15 minutes. But she also peels and slices the potatoes, then pours boiling water over them and leaves them to sit at least a half hour before draining and making up the dish. If you have old squiggy potatoes the soaking probably isn't necessary.

Newfoundland was invaded only 500 years ago, people were living there thousands of years before that. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador today is home to four peoples of Indigenous ancestry: the Inuit, the Innu, the Mi'kmaq and the Southern Inuit of NunatuKavut (formerly the Labrador Inuit-Metis). The Beothuk culture formed around AD 1500. This may have been the most recent cultural manifestation of peoples who first migrated from Labrador to present-day Newfoundland around AD 1. The ancestors of this group had three earlier cultural phases, each lasting approximately 500 years.[4] Good recipe though!

I'd like to say that as an American, I'm so glad your comment section hasn't been invaded by the gatekeepers who think their way of making chilli is the only correct way. Some people just don't understand that recipes are influenced by the ingredients that are available to them. For example, because of where i live, I have access to different types of chilli peppers so my recipe is way different than yours. But despite our different approaches, your chilli looks good so keep on doing what you're doing! Also, some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met were during the times i passed through Newfoundland. Even though it might not be a traditional Newfie recipe, chilli seems like it'd be an appropriate meal to share at a get together up there. I hope it becomes more popular there.

I agree! The best thing about sharing recipes is that we get to see what ingredients are used by people from different parts of the world. I think that is amazing. Being closed-minded on recipes only shows what those people are like on the real issues of life. All recipes are different depending on culture, locations, and many more factors, and those are the things that make sharing recipes so amazing.

When you think about it, it's very smart. Look at all the cost of wrapping and it's gone in seconds. We always keep the bags, we should be doing the same for the wrapping paper.
