Now I understand how to use those small bottles of 3D fabric paint: Let each layer dry and then paint another layer on top.Otherwise they are too transparent

whats the different between a giclee print and a high-quality print on a poster I would buy at Micheals?

Big Like, for you Maggie )))) Very helpful and straight forward. Most matching for me "Does not feel right" - I exactly understand what you are talking about and totally agree with idea to come back to starting point and analyze the expectations at start, the path and result.

"Giclee" is not even a word. lol And you can make this at home. Isn't this the lowest quality print? No one I know uses ink. I thought electrostatic was best?

Your voice is so cute and cartoonish (not a bad thing) Mmm you didn't mention the fact that a true Giclee print requires two main properties to be claimed as a 'Giclee' print. One, it must be made with Fine Art archival papers like Hahnemühle and the type of ink used must be 'pigment' ink opposed to dye based inks. Something that your viewers must also realise is, pigment inks are no where near as dynamic as 'dye' based printers (dye is the common style ink in most printers) B&W prints with the correct paper will look very professional though. So how do I kow all this? I Have a top end pigment printer and was very surprised to discover that the color gamut is inferior to dye based inks. (Dye is not archival and that's why the pro's don't use it.)

So you want a printer with a wider color gamut that is calibrated and profiled. Instead of saying Giclee, which seems rather vague, it seems like the customer should just specify that they want the original color matched on a printed able to do RGB color and specify the type of paper.

An artist must LOOK at their own process while creating.. this is number one. Thus you will create your own technique that matches your intentions... Which in turn uncovers your style, overtime. This I learned from experience.

Thank you for this explanation! I'm currently eyeing a few prints on eBay but wasn't familiar with giclee.. this gives me much more confidence in the product and explains why price is a little higher than I'd expect. Definitely going to buy it now 😅 thanks again!

I'm partially blind, but am trying to make a custom version of a G.I. Joe figure who wears a camp tank top. I couldn't find a camp one, so I want to try to paint a solid dark green tank top to make it came. So it will wind up looking like a camp watermelon. Do you have any recommendations on using a lighter colored paint on a darker colored fabric? Will the lighter colored paint stay true to color, or will it darken? Thanks!

The different products (paint, etc) will let you know on the package how handle it to make it permanent. For some it’s nothing, for others in need to be heat set, etc. also the puffy or 3-D paints - it take does take them awhile to dry, but it looks really bad when you use it with the brush. That kind of product isn’t designed to be spread out with a brush. I have been making shirts using this type of paint for almost 30 years, along with iron-on fabric appliqués and it is obvious that this artist really isn’t qualified to be demonstrating these items. There are so many things she has left out. Check for videos by companies such as Tulip and Plaid for correct instructions on using the paints & pens. There are even fabric inks that you can use your stamps with. Also the reason her star mask wasn’t successful is that twofold: the paint seeped underneath the stencil because she didn’t adhere it down to the shirt. There is a spray to use with stencils called Pixie spray and it’s a temporary adhesive that you can use with paper or fabric, also she didn’t wait long enough for it to dry. I’m not sure why she was in such a hurry to finish this, but I think her outcomes would have been much better had she researched her products and techniques a little more or at all. It’s almost like she was demonstrating what not to do. One big thing is that you need to put a piece of cardboard inside your shirt to ensure that paint or anything that might bleed through your shirt front won’t end up on the back of the shirt as well. You can get inserts for T shirts at the craft store and that are cardboard with a coating to protect not only the other layer of shirt, but also to protect the surface you are working on. They are cheap and you can use it over and over again. Last thing is that I use a discarded kids easel to stand my shirts up on to see what they will look like. It’s nice to be able to take a step back and view your design from several feet away, and when you think about it- that is how they will be seen - a few feet away and not close up. Be sure and put your shirt flat if you are using something that might trickle down. Iron-ones and fabric pieces are ideal for cute multi-media designs. There are some very neat, modern abstract, grunge iron-ons for sale and you can cut and piece them as you like. If using pieces of fabric in the design of say a flower or a fish, trim the edges of the fabric neat and close. Use transfer paper so that you can iron them on to the clothing item, then seal the edges with a line of Scribbles or Tulip paint. Practice with the bottle to make sure your line is neat and straddles the edge of appliqué to the shirt. Also always wash your creations in warm water. Cold water will crack the paint. I have worked hard and given these creations as gifts. A relative didn’t believe me about the warm wash and ruined all my hard work in one laundry load. The cold water did indeed crack the paint…. Made me sad.

I'm looking on places where they sell paintings online and see what has already sold. Sort of different than just looking what people like to look at online. I pin paintings on Pinterest that I like something about the painting, but isn't what I would buy myself. What I'm doing now that I am working on selling online, is I'm doing paintings of what I really like myself. I take the time to think about is this something I would buy myself, and would want to hang on my wall, and look at all the time, and enjoy. Not really thinking about what would be popular to other people. The only problem is I end up falling in love with my paintings. I had to paint copies of two of them, so I could sell the first one I did. I'm mostly doing animals and still life paintings.

sorry for a silly question but can someone tell me how to open a scribble bottle? First-timer here. Do I unscrew the cap cuz that seemed harder to open than a pickle jar. When I squeezed the bottle I saw the paint come to the top. Or do I just puncture a hole through the tip or something?
@amybagnall6097
@amybagnall6097 Жыл бұрын
You have probably found out by now- but there is a clear plastic wrap over the top. That’s why it felt so hard to open. So get a knife or manicure scissors and cut the plastic wrap off. You might be able to peel it if you can see the perforation. Discard that over wrap and now your bottle should be easy to open. When you squeeze the paint put the nozzle on paper at a 45 degree angle and just pull along. It takes a little practice to be able to control the paint properly but once you feel comfortable then you can use it on clothing or whatever. The Tulip paints are similar. The fine in the larger bottles sometimes, but also the small. Just depends on what the retailer carries.

@@amybagnall6097 oh thank you for still replying. haha. I guess I eventually figured it out.. or... just lost patience and got a scissors. overall... it didn't quite work out the way I wanted to use it. But at least now I have an idea what it can and can't do.

As far as a practical art studio for what I do, and what can also be used to hang out, and listen to music with gorgeous views (especially on rainy and snowy days/evenings), I'm going with your #1 as well. I would have a colorful flower garden right outside. Maybe even a little water fountain for the birds ❤
