I am now into my 3rd week after my replacement. I am only 46, and I went home at the two day mark. I have just had 32 clips removed and it has gave me my life back. I have no pain and all my pain in my knee and ankle has gone as well. I feel absolutely amazing!!!. I am bruised and swollen but I need to slow down a bit as I’ve tried to do more than I should. I am in the UK and after 40 years of severe pain 99% of my pain has gone in a 2 hour op. I honestly cannot get over what I can do now as I was so restricted my entire life and now I can’t stop smiling!!. I am now looking forward to having my left hip done as well now, but I could cry I am so happy x

I had my right knee replaced on March 1st and my left knee replaced 8 weeks later. Scary thought but went very well. I was 77 years old at the time and recovery was quick.

Truly helpful and informative video, thank you. I know that the time has come for me, six years after being told, that it needed to be done. I admit to having severe reservations but watching this has eased most of those. I have seen friends and family go through the procedure, both good and not so good and can see where the " not so good " went wrong. Gives me a plan of attack for my surgery. My surgery will not be done by you but I know my surgeon will do the right thing as he has for my past 10 procedures. Again, thank you for doing this.

Just had my DAA THR today with Dr Pritchard in Hobart who is a very credentialed surgeon also. This presentation from Dr Hutchinson was a fantastic insight and covers the pre and post op points very well. Yes.. I had a little anxiety as a fit 52yo, but it could not have gone any better so far. Just make sure you get the advice which is right for you as every one has their own needs and concerns. I got two ortho opinions and decided DAA was the approach for me. But like he said… you will most likely know when you need it done. As an Exercise Physiologist I am know looking forward with working with my Physio partners for successful rehab outcomes.

Great educational video. Thanks for sharing. Should there be any restrictions regarding how to walk up and down the stairs after surgery? Among physios there's a rule that patients should only walk up with the non-operated leg and only walk down with the operated leg in the first 3-5 weeks after surgery. When I questioned this rule the reasons I was given were: "the prosthesis still needs to consolidate", or "there is a risk of busting the sutures"🤔 While I do believe that one should respect the patient's pain and strength thresholds, I see some risk of muscle atrophy, hence joint instability in this approach. Any thoughts about this? Cheers.

Dr, i would make a bit more research. I was diagnosed with arthritis in the hips 2 years ago. I started stretching daily and taking supplements and my cartilage has regenerated. I can now do exercise daily with absolutely no pain. Supplements helps wonders combined with proper nutrition and exercise.
