We've been using a wooden beam and placing it through the door openings to lift the cabs. Place the cherry picker arm in the center and lift straight up. Works great.
@txdbstx896725 күн бұрын
I know this is a late reply but it appears that the upper section of the cab is completely rotted out from the inside out between the steel.panels above the back glass as well as above the windshield. Also the upper door pillars look to be rusted out on the inside where you can't access it. This is likely too extensive to repair with aftermarket patch panels but a donor cab would be ideal and an experienced metal fabricator could save this cab. The bottom of the cab can be repaired with readily available patch panels. Another thing I noticed is the stainless steel VIN tag is missing. I suspect a previous owner used the truck asva VIN tag donor due to the fact that the entire upper section of the cab is completely rotted out and will require more work and money than is feasible. The previous owner sold the truck with this in mind. Not impossible but definitely for an extremely ambitious and motivated truck lover. The most important aspect of any classic truck is the cab and specifically the upper section of the cab around the windshield, door pillars and inaccessible body seams!!! If these sections are rotted out either pass on the truck or plan to spend a ton of time, expertise and money to repair it.

Thanks for all the information I also have a 1977 ford. I seen alot of swaps on KZfaq I was wondering, why nobody just replaces the whole Chevrolet fuel tank with fuel pump in it and just runs fuel lines that way. Seems like everyone using the Corvette KIT
@machnikgarage4 ай бұрын
There are multiple options for fuel supply. I’ve seen people use blazer fuel tanks on ls swaps but I didn’t want to have to custom mount a tank if I didn’t have to. The newer truck tanks unfortunately don’t fit between the frame and drive shaft. Older trucks have a narrower frame. I went with a rear mounted tank from a 95 f150. The rear frame sections are basically the same from 73-96ish. I utilized the new model tank and in tank pump since it was a direct bolt in and the corvette filter/regulator was the best option for my setup. Earlier model ls engines had the regulator on the fuel rail and would only need a feed and return but I had the single line system on my engine. Also the corvette setup uses far less fuel line materials than running 2 separate lines front to back.

Do power steering line hoses need adapters to screw to the ford power steering pump?
@machnikgarage4 ай бұрын
I used the factory ford steering box and the gm pump. I had to cut the flare nut off of the ford high pressure line and use a flare nut that would fit the gm pump and re flare the line. I also had to change the insert in the back of the pump to accept the flare fitting instead of the modern o-ring fittings. Now the east way to do it is to buy the universal power steering line kit that has all the adapters and new line needed but I was trying to use what I had on hand.

Are you referring to the tie rod end holes in the knuckle?
@randydarcey29474 ай бұрын
@@machnikgarage correct
@machnikgarage4 ай бұрын
I have never had to deal with that issue but if it was me I would look at sourcing a new use knuckle. There may be kits out there to drill it out and insert a new tapered seat. I would compare the prices on repair kits, a whole use axle, or a knuckle itself. Sometimes you can find a used axle on the market place and the spare parts it gives you is a better value than just buying the part needed.
