EVERY religion is like this… even if they think they aren’t. Cults. You feel what you purpose to feel.

I'm not really seeing how this movie is scary. "omg it's a.....LE CULT!" An embellished horror-esque twist on ancient pagan ceremonies are scary to people?

If I lived in the Harga my competitive ass would definitely want a male counterpart to this dance so I could try to be the last one standing 😂

I think what people keep missing in this movie is the trauma and horror that Dani has already experienced up until the trip. Horror is inevitable no matter where you go and she’d rather have a family that loves her than experience further trauma of being with someone who does not love and see her. It was more frightening to be with Christian. I’d rather be with Pelle and deal with some occasional weird shit

In the old times, young women wanted to be impregnated, danced at a place near me, called the place Frö-berget. the small hill of Freyir and his Wife Frö. One can imagine what people did at that hill. Certainly not grilling sausages.

I love that this is the first scene in the movie where Dani really smiles. Before this scene, she would smile, but very weakly and only to be polite. This is the first time in the movie where she actually smiles out of joy.

You can! Midsummer festivals almost exactly like the movie (minus the drugs, rape and death) take place every year in rural areas of plenty of European countries like Sweden, maypole dance included.

Could have been a masterpiece but didn't quite make it. There are stunning scenes, acting and story are first class, but to me it feels as if each time the film is just about to fly it gets smacked back on the ground. Nevertheless I've seen it about 20 times. Rino and Cassel as two very different cops who are forced to work together in order to solve the case are outstanding. And of course Ms Fares. For me by far the hottest actress. Through "Crimson Rivers" i came to watch "The Hornet's Nest" also with Fares and in that film she's even more adorable. If she had been my French teacher I would have learned the bloody language in no time.

I was a Goth girl from ‘86 to about ‘01 (13-28yo) and had a total hoot…I always avoided the torn-faced arses, both male & female, who failed to look on the bright side…silly buggers!

Lmao it sucks to admit it but this cult would swipe me up so fast. As someone who's friendless, touch-starved, loves flowery aesthetics, and always wanted to be good at dancing, this scene right here makes me wish I were Dani. And that's a really, REALLY scary thing to realize. If I were given everything I ever wanted, would I actually be able to accept the brutal murders of others in exchange? Jeez Ari Aster you gotta cool it with the existential dread.

My wife liked this movie, but won't watch it again. I think it has to do with her susceptibility.

This is also the exact same experience I got from the movie. It doesn't help I watched it during actual midsommar (not intentional) during my 18th birthday, a few days before leaving my whole old life behind, moving to a new country and starting from blank

Besides, they won't be committing the sacrifices again in Dani's lifespan, so she can join in with a clear conscience.
