So all the hair goes into the septic tank, wonder how much that's gonna cost
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 3 күн бұрын
Hello TheHappyDIYGuy-ri8nb, Let's put it this way. I would rather have my plumbing fixtures working than not. You are suppose to get your septic tank cleaned out every five years....standard practice. I live outside the city where there are hundreds (more like thousands) of septic tanks and not a single soul is ever worried about hair going into their tank. If the drain does not plug and runs continuously with no issues the hair goes down the drain anyway. The cost of getting the tank pumped is around $350 Canadian. I worry more about grease going down a kitchen drain than hair. Believe me I have been at this for over for decades and grease can be a nightmare as you probably know. Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al

You didn't mention cutting off the water supply. Are you assuming that everyone knows how to or is it really not necessary?
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 10 күн бұрын
Hello imjimimack, When I made my videos I put annotations on all of them from start to finish using youtubes set up. The first one was always turn the water off before working on any faucet or waterline. A few years ago youtube removed all annotations on all videos. Any you see on videos on youtube now are put on using editing software. Many people I would assume do not know how to or know that it is necessary to turn off the water. I get that question from time to time. I am going to go through all my videos in the near future and add this as the top comment which will stay in place. I appreciate your comment and enjoy your week! Al

Hello anthonydf2003, I have used this methods hundreds of times over the past four decades with great success. Biggest thing when using a plunger on a drain is to make sure the overflow is sealed off. This same method works on bathroom sinks as well. I generally use an old cloth and plug the over flow while I use the plunger on the drain. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al

I have to detach the hose, and your version "just add clamp" doesn't help--the plumber's clamp that I have on mine is a strip of metal with a fly arm cut out of centre, cinched tight and looking permanent! HOW did the person that hooked up the drain get that thing ON there? How do I get it off? Do I have to break it, and go out and buy an older style collar to cinch it? Did they get it on there with a specialized tool that regular people aren't liable to purchase?
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 Ай бұрын
Hello vjglucky7, Sounds like a cinch tool was used. If so you can use a pair of side cutters and pinch it a little bit at a time.. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for commenting and best of luck with the project! Al
@vjglucky7

The one that you show, "that's a bushing," I am attempting to disconnect my under-sink dishwasher drain in order to remove dishwasher to replace the heating element. The hose must come off (to feed hose through cabinet wall; there is not enough play in the drain hose). There is a bushing style (like you show) that has drain hose-clamp, flat, firm, effectively unmovable in place (good; it won't leak), as maybe a plumber's-cinch (flat and a central bit, bent) and feels practically welded into place. As collars go, it has a metal cut-out fly-arm sticking up. I am tempted to wrestle it off, but then what do I do about putting it back on?, or something in it's place. Do I have to go out and buy a piece, or is this a think ONLY a plumber's tools can cinch into place?? Drain is great, don't want to wreck it. Can't get it off.

Delta is the worst junk made - after many years the outer retainer becomes frozen and nothing will remove it - you end up destroying the valve before it comes off. GARBAGE !!

Hello user-ds8gq8mf8v, I have run into a few situations like you have mentioned. I am a Moen fan myself. Really like their products! Should be a spokesman for them!!! What is the methods to dry the inside wall before caulking, the issue has been over a year I’m pretty sure inside the wall is moisture?
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 2 ай бұрын
Hello vanessasam6630, I guess that would depend on what kind of shape the wall is in. Generally if the water has been running inside the wall for a long period of time and there is tile on the wall it gets soft underneath the spout and you get into a project by having to replace the gyproc and tile. I usually go with gyproc, Schluter than tile.Hopefully in your case it isn't that bad. The only way I can think of is to use a dehumidifier and let it run for a number of days. It will take some time, but it will work. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al

Hello Squig8, I am glad to hear that everything worked out for you! A little elbow grease goes a long way. I never use chemicals and one of the reasons is if I have to take the drain apart under the sink to put a snake I will be dealing with toxic chemicals which could cause some serious issues. Not at all good for the environment as well! I have seen a few people with chemical burns from drain cleaners. Congrats on the repair and enjoy your day! Al

@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 2 ай бұрын
Hello frankyu6984, Lots going on with that scenario. It doesn't really add any pressure or suction on the drain itself. Placing the stopper allows the force of the plunger to work on the drain. It works on most plugged drains unless there is a large amount of grease that has gone down it. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al

My faucet doesn’t leak, but the temperature is fluctuating wildly while showering. Will replacing this part fix that too?
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 2 ай бұрын
Hello gcolonius8270, First we will start with the type of faucet you have in your bathroom. If it is a Moen and pull the handle out to turn on the water than changing the cartridge will not make any difference. If you have a Moen faucet that you simply turn the handle for the water to flow then you have a posi-temp faucet and if this is the case then you have a problem with the cartridge. The older style Moen faucets were the pull out style and the water temperature fluctuated all over the map if someone in the house turned on water elsewhere. It sounds like it is this style. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
