Maybe other people have thought of this too but I haven't seen anyone else say it: I think that there was an underlying threat posed by the metatron in the offer to Aziraphale and that THAT was a major reason for their choice as well as. First of all there's the motif of the ultimatum “coffee or death” and for some reason-that juxtaposes the usual ‘don’t compromise holiness with material usage’-the first thing the metatron did was go to the coffee shop. Here he remarked on the fact that no one ever chooses the bad option when they are so distracted by their desire for the preferred option. He decided to adopt this method of manipulation in his approach to Aziraphale without exactly adding the choice of ‘death’; he seemed careful to avoid losing Az’s trust by suggesting a serious sanction (which as seen in s1 only pushesd Az away from heaven and it’s clutches). Aziraphale fell for the trap and naturally leapt at the chance to be with Crowley, give Crowley the protection from hell and give Crowley a life they think can make them as happy as when two first met. They were shocked when they realised that Crowley is determined they would never be happy as an angel again (that's of course another topic) and its only then that they realised they never secured another option-and the metatron gave no indication that he would allow one. Az only knew that A) the metatron is the voice of god and so his saying that Az was the “only one for the job” was a distinct will of god and so to go against it would defy heaven (which they are still holding onto as something they won’t do), and B) if they became rejected because of that then they couldn’t prevent the ‘second culling’ or receive and offer protection (from heaven or otherwise) to Crowley. Aziraphale is doing everything they can to protect Crowley 😭

May I? So they have two differnt exactlies. Crowley isn't aware Metatron is there. When Aziraphale interupts him he knows he's pressed for time. Worried for them. After all when Hell found out Crowley did something good and was taken away for a long time. What would heaven do to him? They have to pretend to be adversaries. But that's not working anymore. You can see Aziraphale mouth window and you can see Crowley ignore him for a moment and then you see him look away from him while he goes on about joining heaven. It's so Crowley understands what's going on. Heaven wants to take THEM away. He's afraid and at this point does want Crowley to come with him out of free. Crowley sees what's going on and looks back at him. He knows they're both in danger if they let on they're in synce but he can't allow his lover to go off without some type of protection. He tries to tell him he loves him why he's there and sees the whole thing is ruined. It pisses him off. He wants to tell his angel his loves him and knows he doesn't have time now. Aziraphale sees this and now tries to push him away and give him an out waving his hands and being anxious. Lying to him so he breaks it off before it starts. Crowley says something. I don't know if he stops time here or not. They somehow made a plan. He goes to Aziraphale and he kisses him. Crowley has seen Aziraphale do magic several times. Give the ox ribs he ate from and hide them on Job, put a spare bullet in his mouth to make something appear, ect. He understands how to ditch something in magic. He slips something into Aziraphale's mouth. Maybe the bullet? Maybe a ring? Maybe a key? Aziraphale is more surprised by the kiss and kisses him back. The two stay like that. Aziraphale with his hand running down Crowley's back wanting more and Crowley pushing against him wanting the same. Time is up. He has to move back. Aziraphale quietly says I love you and then says I forgive you....Like when he said it with Jim to Crowley....This is his way of saying run. Crowley feels upset that he has to and does so and tells Aziraphale no nightingals. Either this means I'll meet you at the Ritz OR he doesn't want to meet him there because it's too dangerous, nor to meet at the park since they have been abducted there before. Maybe the key is a new flat or place for Aziraphale to go to instead. He leaves. Aziraphale touches his lips. First in want and aw and second to take out the object in his mouth. When the Metatron comes in we see Aziraphale turn around. To now have the object in his hand. He keeps it there holding onto it. He goes from distressed to understanding. He slowly becomes happier. Knowing there's a plan to stay together. Once at the elevator. He learns of Metatron's plan. He stands the same way he did when he was going to catch the bullet. Trust me. He smiles. He knows he'll be back to Crowley. Crowley gets in frustrated at the whole thing. He wants to be the 'us' with Aziraphale and is tired. The song plays. He's gotten messages from his people via the radio before. From demons. Could it be the station number he slipped into Aziraphale's mouth? Their song plays. They will meet at the Ritz and the story will end as it began....In a garden....We'll have to wait and see but I'm excited.
