Thank you for this. I experienced consistent childhood trauma and just began work in a psychology lab focusing on threat response. This was very helpful.

Seriously, how is one able to adsorb the experiences of previous generations?

There is not a one line reply. Read about/listen to intergenerational trauma (ex. ACEs study)

@@Dianulilla that's not adsorbing, that is called learning information. This implies it is generationally passed on... Like in DNA

@@Regnisab he just means learned whether Implicitly by observation or explicitly, he does not mean in DNA ,that hasn't been proven yet to occur in humans.

Epigenetics means on top of, or gene expression. This is not the same as DNA changes, which occur over 10 000 + years or so. Gene expression is reversible given a conducive environment. We can't just look at genes as something seperate from an environment, these things always go together..

Dr Bruce Perry I have been raped, sexually assaulted, incest by my father Grady Guy Gardner Jr for 13 years from ages 2 - 15 years corroborated by bio mom Kim Dillman’s testimonial during 1982 custody battle where Milwaukee Court gave custody of me back to my rapist Grady where he sexually assaulted me more. Then I was sexually assaulted in 1989 by Steve my foster brother when I was 16 years old. In 1996 I was beaten during pregnancy with my baby 🌹 Rose Baker who was murdered by her father George Allen Baker Jr when I was 23. That same year I experienced my first breakdown. I was diagnosed with PTSD. My ACE score is extremely high. In the last year, I was sexually assaulted and/or assaulted and robbed by 9 men in 4 incidents during the year with 7 angry black men in the last 3 months a) 4 at @Walmart on Capitol b) 2 at @Walmart on 27th Street near Oklahoma c) 1 near the Water Tower on Sunday May 14 just a few weeks ago. I am currently in CRISIS working with Betsy CoCos at SaintA The Clinic. I also reached out to Tim Grove of SaintA who trained me and worked with me when I was on the Trauma Informed Care Committee at SaintA. Tim directed me here. How do I deescalate? I seem trapped in FIGHT mode, Combat PTSD mode? Thank you Dr Bruce Perry [email protected] (414) 391-0565

I am excited that I am currently in the NMT training. As a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator who is also a trauma-informed, resiliency-focused Licensed Professional Counselor, I am interested in the ways that the NMT framework can help me better explain to my clients the importance of dynamic, enlivened movement. I especially like your comment in this video, "...the more moving parts there are, the more cells, the more dynamically active any part of the brain is, the easier it will be to modify and influence that part of the brain. In other words, neuroplasticity tracks with dynamic activity." Yes! Movement is what develops and repatterns the brain, and as the brain develops and patterns more dynamic movement is possible!

As an adoptive parent of a traumatised child with intellectual challenges, my first stop for help is Dr.Perry. I will be accessing this and all of Child Trauma Academy videos as my boy grows up. His sheer brilliance and ease of delivery gives me comfort in knowing that someone gets my son, and that my boy's future will be wonderful because I listened to Dr. Perry.

Thank you for another great talk. You have been incredibly helpful to myself and my clients for many years. I am a great fan. In this talk I only heard five core strengths, and was hoping you (or anyone who heard more clearly) could help me with this. I heard: attachment, regulation, affiliation, awareness, and tolerance. What did I miss? Many thanks!

Katie 'im no expert stress is useful but T or t trauma is problematic. resilience is the capacity to buffer stress/trauma and is built with repetitive predictable nurturing care/responses from others. this creates a template which the child carries. in treatment i create a plasticine template and explain what biopsychosocial factors may have influence this, they then appreciate that they can reshape the template as its not set in stone. Bruce or anyone please correct

I, too, was wondering about the resilient line on the graph for the last slide. Would these be children who have built up a tolerance for abuse/trauma due to continuous exposure-the ones who seem to be non-reactive,unfeeling, oblivious?

I love this series. I would like more information about the "resilient" pattern on the last slide. I understand the "vulnerable" and the "normal", but don't understand how the "resilient" fits in. Would this be a child who experienced potentially traumatic events but who had caregivers that kept their state of arousal low? I know I'm missing something, but can't figure out what!
