100% way more laid off and graduated people flooded the market than new jobs have opened in the rebound

New information, new leverage, new circumstances, new competing opportunities. All ways to re open negotiations. It happens sometimes. You’re fighting against that first anchor but after you get the offer, you will want to bring up your new information and argument for a higher offer in your counter. Ideally this is because the role is bigger scope than you originally thought, you learned your market value through other offers or interview processes, or you just learned from others at the company about what to expect. There is a lot that goes into an offer other than compensation, so you can bring up anything. More risk than you anticipated, giving up other opportunities, etc. Lots of ways around it but it’s just a bit tougher and you have to manage their emotions since they may be annoyed by your change.

If you act disappointed in the call, you will almost certainly make a misstep and lose leverage or even worse, get sucked into questioning and negotiating by the recruiter on the call. That always leads to worse outcomes than planning your counter and coming back later prepared with your approach.

It is a subset of software engineer but I should have split it out. Levels doesn’t do it well yet

You’re not wrong. Model quality roles are increasing but a very different type of role and skill. They can adapt for sure.

Security engineer do earn well but they are software engineers. Top security engineers can make $1m at places like Meta and Google. Security Analysts are not top 5 and make less.

So much will be different. I imagine some roles will improve and others will not. Hard to tell but you have so much time to adapt between then and now. Learning software and AI is not a bad idea at all.

Blockchain is an area of tech and product, not a job function in the company. You can work in a lot of these functions on blockchain. It’s not as prominent as AI/ML software engineer which is the only SWE role subcategory we broke out and even then it was engineers and researchers combined

But yes blockchain developers within the SWE category can do really well

Depends. The median is actually 250k-300k. If you are senior and going to top companies, then 800k to a few million is possible but it’s not as common as people would have you believe. Check AIPayGrad.es and you’ll see it’s 326k median total compensation in the US with most between 300-500k

It is but still a good career vs most others. It’s just going to be harder for the next little while for entry levels. Still decent income.

I can try slightly different angles but I find it tough to compose the shot better with my desk setup without moving the guitar on the wall completely. I’ll try subtle changes until I decide it’s worthwhile to move things more. The white background isn’t the best for my head either but it’s the way it is for now.

An editor does this for me. I edited in the past. It just takes practice and tutorials online for how to do the animations along with templates you can buy or download. I’m not the best to teach this.

If you can specialize it would be better yes. Even though you need masters or phd for some roles you’ll still have an advantage for many roles requiring some AI and they earn more on average

I don’t predict recessions. This was from March and recession prediction measures ranged from 30-70% (treasury spread, consumer debt, part time vs full time employment rates). Jobs growth was dubious and GDP growth slowed and is reliant on heavily debt driven consumer spending. Broad US job market is definitely struggling on the ground despite top level indicators as part time employment rates were accelerating towards 2008 levels. Again, no one predicts these consistently

They do. You can add some that are actually skills meaningful to the role at the bottom or as I mentioned in context. You don’t need to clutter the top with words without evidence
