If as runner you have the choice between gym (weights) and bodyweight exercises & bands, what would you choose?

I just started last week. I have had 3 years of no exercise since I had my baby but was an athlete in High School. My times suck but I've never felt better, mentally and physically. I couldn't run 200m the first day, 6 sessions later I can run 1.5 miles without stopping. Not to mention, I started with 80% in zone 5 (not intentionally)and just 6 sessions later am 80% on zone 3. What our bodies can achieve is truly remarkable!

No need, the first 5k will be a nice warm up and will make sure you don’t go out too hard. Just do some dynamic stretches and maybe two strides just to open the legs. Doing a warmup is just using up valuable glycogen

Not sure if you still check these comments but watned to say I enjoyed the video and had a question from what you've seen and experienced. Partook in the Peachtree Road Race last year for my first and so far only 10k with 6 runs that entire year, none above 4.4 miles. I came out witha 43 something and was just wondering (since I've started training this week) if you think I can get under 41 or 40 if I consistently train for the next 6 weeks leading up to it? And I loved that 2x3200, 1x1600, and 4x200 workout idea, any idea how many times and when I should fit that and hill workouts in the next 6 weeks? Thanks!

No excuses to not warm up for a short race. Actually, the shorter the race, the more warmup it needs.

Thanks for the video! I’m training for my first half marathon for the end of June.I have a question! I have a slight knee pain when I’m running recently and I’m wondering, if I take about a week off for it to heal, is it going to really affect my training?

’Most people don’t have access to a sauna” *laughing in Finnish 😂* Here in Finland we have more saunas per capita than anywhere else on the planet and even average apartments are fitted with one. I personally use a sauna after a long run to get my muscles relaxed. I’ve also sometimes go for a run after having a sauna. This can be a quite relaxing experience, but your mileage may vary. Paradoxically going to the sauna on a hot day can help your body cool down overall. Pro-tip: if you happen to have some beer around, pour just a sip’s worth, not from your mouth obviously, on the hot stones with some water and you will get one of the best aroma fragrances (smells like freshly baked bread) to add to your relaxation.

Great tips / the two things I always make sure to include my own tapers are: (1) increasing my daily sleep by 1-2 hours during the taper, and (2) plantains are lowkey underrated carb sources because they help replenish the potassium + their ripening cycle allows you to cook them based on the glucose you want to derive from them. So for tempo run days, I typically use yellower plantains - green plantains for long runs.

I cant watch past 14 minutes. She keeps saying the people she's training don't want to eat anything. Like really who are these people who never want to eat and hate eating??!? Most people want to eat less. Is she training people with eating disorders that are underweight and think thats how most people are? So so tells everyone to eat more? SOrry if this is a negative comment but she said it like 5 times already, while some runners run to lose weight or to stay in shape. Its like the opposite of most americans do or people living in the west in general here.

Heat makes it harder! I noticed that my heartrate is always higher when its hot, for the same speed and type of run. Theres always heat in races its unpredictable so you got to learn it. The cold makes it harder also. FOr me the ice hurts me in the winter more than the cold. ANd the snow also and low daylight hours and traffic and salt in winter, since some of the sidewalks are blocked off with snow in winter. In the 60s F is the best temperature I think. The heat hurts me worse during long runs with higher duration, than shorter faster runs.

How do your legs recover fast enough to keep increasing the mileage? The more mileage the more tired your legs get and it doesn't make you any faster. Some might have neuropathy high blood sugar or bad circulation

I’m training for my first marathon in October, I’m roughly 50lbs over weight right now. I’m at 210lbs, and calculated that I’d probably be around 5-7% bf at 160lbs. I’ve done a 2 hour half at 200lbs bw, and just last week I did a 30k at 210lbs. I want to lose weight before the marathon to make training easier and to see if I could get sub 4 hours. In the next 5 months before the race, how much weight should I aim to lose, and how long should I spend loosing weight, before going into maintenance so that I can safely ramp up training?

A song list with 170bpm or 180 bpm! There are quite some on Spotify. Or you can pick a few songs from your favourite music, and compare them to the 180bpm ones. If they are close, then just use your own music. I have a favourite song which is at 180bpm, and I just loop over and over during my run. I don’t mind it. If you don’t listen to music during your runs, then use a metronome and practice a bit to get used to that rhythm before you start the run.
