I use shredded paper. Get it from the local bank. Like it better than cardboard

Some used potting soil works too or some dirt out of your yard. I use at least year old soil and works seem to love it. How much depends on how many worms. Enough for a nice little home

Hello from my northwest Florida homestead. I was looking for videos on repurposing my chest freezer that quit working. I have vermicomposted on a small scale before and that was the first thing I thought about to repurpose the chest freezer. My second choice is to use it as a large ice chest, my third choice is possibly a root cellar, but not really sold on that idea, and I also saw some people using theirs as a raised bed but not sure about that one either.

I have a tiny deep freeze that apparently can't be used for human food anymore because I once stored a dead fox in there... Anyways this seems like a really good purpose for it now.

Would outside screened compost have “ Wild “ worm eggs? I ask because I have invasive Asian jumping worms in my yard and compost!

I am in Tennessee and my yard, compost and gardens are full of the invasive Asian jumping worms! I suppose I can’t use my compost in my red wigglers because I could transfer the invasive eggs to my red worms. I’m so sad these things have literally taken over so fast! Anyone else dealing with this?

tip for future if you hole saw a 3inch hole in a piece of wood you can lay it on top of your mesh and hole saw your circles out using the wood as a guide instead of a pilot bit

Don’t forget to put a lock on the freezer. In Florida the law says you have to remove the door of throw away refrigerator and freezers because kids can climb in. My grandmother put a paddle lock on her freezer so I couldn’t climb in and get stuck.

You want unbleached flour. The whole reason bleached flour was developed was because the rats were eating the unbleached flour. Once the flour was gassed with chlorine gas, the rats wouldn't touch it. And, neither should you.
