I feel seriously called out. Absolutely love Gang of Four, and Talking Heads. Fontaines DC, Wet Leg, and Idles are heavily in my music rotation. If you like those bands too please check Obongjayar- especially Just Cool, and Point and Kill.

As a long term fan… I can say it just became glaringly soulless. I suddenly wanted music that wasn’t about materialism. It used to be such a vibe… it now mostly feels lacking. Oh also it might all be a Mk ultra psyop 😂😅😬 are they all working for the feds or iust some? Diddy… that you?

Hot take - KOL NEVER sold out. They broadened and developed a more diverse/ deep sound. Thank goodness they "sold out," because they have literally never made a single bad album. Absolute legends.

Sex on Fire IS the song that got me and MANY others into Kol's back catalogue, so thank you for creating it, even if you didn't want to do. Now that I've listened to this group for years, Sex on Fire isn't even a top 10 song of theirs'.... Long live KOL!

It's a full time job defending KOL to my friends. I have to tell people that there is way more than meets the eye to their hits. Every album stands on it's own and sounds like them. In my opinion, that's what makes a band great: changing the vibes and taking risks and still sounding like yourself.

There is nothing new under the sun... Interesting commentary about The Pixies, who were a great band, but lumping Whitney Houston in the mix? The Pixies were not the first to have a soft verse and a loud chorus. Heck, listen to Ramble On by Led Zeppelin, for just one example of many. LOL Their (Pixies) recorded sound, rightly credited to the late, great Steve Albini, was definitely a game changer, even though it borrowed heavily from bands 20+ years earlier.

They spent years without major popularity then for a few years they were super popular. They then went back to their average popularity and people ask what went wrong? Its just the standard ark of your average rock band really. Not that I think The Lips are in any way average. I love their fearless creativity. It means however that they keep losing and also gaining fans all the time. You don’t have to be in it for the ride. There aren’t any rules. However, I certainly am!

Yea but at best we'll get a couple of good singles. The whole thing feels like a novelty and not the meat and potatoes of what ones music taste is made up of. Still cool though, change is good in music.

The Verve brought the orchestrated riff from the Andrew Oldham Orchestra out from obscurity. "Ripped off". Maybe, but "Bittersweet" is a nice song! Otherwise no one would barely know Andrew Oldham existed. And since it was based on the Stones' song "The Last Time" and "Bittersweet" was highly popular,, of course everybody got in on the suit party. The happy ending is the Stones reverted songwriting credit to the Verve and returned the royalties. Good for all of them.i

listen video guy; making this whole video amd not mentioning the foundational influence of modest mouse to every post punk and indie dance punk band since is a huge oversight on your part ... in fact, it makes me think you are probably too young to have actually lived through the kate 90s and early 00s music scene, cherry picking bands you like to fit your narrative. without modest mouse, there would be no lcs.soundsystem or strokes or franz ferdinand, et al. modest mouse, with tracks like tundra/desert and doin' the cockroach gave all the subsequent bands the framework with which to play post punk, yet still dance your ass off ... in fact, i remember isaac saying in an interview part of his motivation in writing the album, good news for people who love bad news and its lead track, float on, was a direct response to seeing all of those baby bands he had spawned, ape'ing the style of modest mouse and getting a paid doing so, figuring, cufk it, we deserve a bag more than any of those assholes(he was right), so released that record. but in reality, if you're gonna talk about dance punk at all without mentioning the talking heads and their seminal live album, stop making sense, you need to go back and polish up on your history to sound less like a n00b on the matter, trillz.

Garden Shed will always stay one of my favorite songs of Tylers if not one of my favourite songs in general just because of the impact it and the whole flower boy album had on me in my self discovery phase and my sexuality, it got me to accept who i am and feel good about it and that one day when im ready, coming out wont be so scary.
