I have been losing prime .. my water source is from my canal .. I changed the check valve at the canal.. then filled my system with water from my hose that I connected to my system.. I got it running but when my system shuts down it loses prime.. any thoughts on what it could be ? Maybe the check valve at the pump is stuck? Thank you and thanks for the videos

Installing unions would make changing it out a bit easier.

They CREATE bigger projects for themselves. In this case, next time they’ll need to re-pipe several pipes as there’ll be no pipe left for him to cut!

@specialestness 11 ай бұрын
@@jrm163don’t let him see this comment. He’s “installed 37,000 pumps” so you should “stick to your day job” My pump needs to be winterized every year and part of that includes letting the check valve drain all prime so I would need to re-plumb every year if it weren’t for unions.

Nice vid. Couldn't a couple of unions have been used to make pump replacement more simple for the next person in the future? For instance one wouldn't need to cut any pipe to R and R a pump.
@waterboysprinkler
@waterboysprinkler 3 жыл бұрын
No I don't believe in pvc unions they leak it's much better just cut it out replace it with a coupling And besides it's always better to re pipe when you replace a pump. And that's based on 47 years of experience and thousands and thousands of pumps that I replaced.

I just helped a neighbor install a 1.5HP self priming pump to draw his lake water for his sprinklers. The pump is located on the side of the house next to the sprinkler valves. We ran 150 feet of 1.5 inch pipe down to the lake and installed a check valve next to the well screen in the lake. The pump will not draw at all from the lake. I checked for clogs, air leaks, and even changed out the check valve. I primed the system and it still will not draw from the lake. What am I missing here?

Pumps don't like to 'suck' from a distance. They will push water much better, so pump near the source.

Great job replacing that pump. Im having a problem with mine except a little different. The wiring that underground for the pump is in pvc but it keeps getting hot and tripping the breaker. What type of wiring should I use underground? Should it be in pvc or would that create a heat problem? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@waterboysprinkler
@waterboysprinkler 5 жыл бұрын
Yes you definitely want to run your wires in PVC conduit they must be at least a number 12 gauge and it cannot be too long of a distance either you need a 20 amp breaker to run that pump on 220vac
@beachside1
@beachside1 5 жыл бұрын
@@waterboysprinkler Wow quick reply thank you. The run is about 110ft its an older fla house so it goes from the pump to the breaker inside but like i said I used that white romex i thinks its called. Its usually seen inside new house construction in the walls for like outlets. Im just not sure if using that type of wire is the right dtuff or not causing the breaker to blow. The breakers are 2--110v making it 220v i guess. Could it be wired incorrectly when the pump company replaced the pump? Btw Im sorry for bothering you. Its just that you know what your doing and I trust what you have to say...Thanks alot
