We drive through Belmont and stop at the Dirty Dick's Bar for a cold one. They really don't like out-of-towners, you can feel that when you walk in. The patrons look at you and turn their heads and the lady bartender ignores you. My son told me they don't like Californians. Other than that, it's a pretty neat little town.🥴🍻

Huh, that's interesting! I'm sorry you weren't treated well, but I'm glad you were able to support the town with your visit and order. I'm sure every little bit helps to keep such remote historic gem alive. :)

I bought 5.5 acres about 10 miles south of there a few years ago. Only been there once but plan to go camp out in spring 2024. Been to Zapata and the dunes several times. Central KY is home.

That sounds lovely! Spring is a prime time to visit the dunes - especially with Medano Creek flowing. So cool you got your own piece of paradise there. :)

Please note that this is actually located in Geneva, Illinois. While you are in Geneva, make sure to check out the Viking ship on east side drive in Good Templar park or shop 3rd street.
@discoverallcorners6 ай бұрын
You're right! Thanks for letting me know, I'll fix that. (Not sure why Google Maps states Batavia.) Thank you for tip on the Viking ship! Sounds very unique and this is the first time I'm hearing about it. :)
@rynmcmahon6 ай бұрын
Batavia is know as the windmill city, due to other windmills that were around the area. Easy mistake to make. This windmill was relocated from the Elmhurst/Lombard area at some point.

Medano creek normally flows the whole year, peak at night and minimum in the afternoon.
@discoverallcorners2 ай бұрын
By July, Medano Creek almost always retreats towards the mountains and is nearly or completely dried up near the dunes parking lot. (You can find updates about its current status on the Great Sand Dunes National Park website: www.nps.gov/grsa/planyourvisit/medano-creek.htm)

Too bad it's fake! Follow the water downstream, You'll find a concrete pumping station that pumps the water back up the mountain.
@discoverallcorners3 жыл бұрын
What makes you think that? I've seen the pipes downstream when we explored the area and I have no idea what their actual purpose is but was thinking along the line of diverting some of the water down into the valley? The creek continues upwards of the falls and connects with South Zapata Lake though not all maps show this.
@jimholmes25553 жыл бұрын
Late summer, No running water on the mountain yet the falls are still flowing. Figure it out. I've driven my old Willys Jeep all over Mount Blanca. I've been to Three Sisters Falls (on Tobin Creek) late summer and no water, But magically Zapata flows!?!

I have used the Big Agnes Tensleep 6 (13 pounds) for nearly a decade. I chose it for car-camping base camps due to the 6-foot center ceiling height. The tent has held well in multiple storms and windy days, fully tacked-down. In considering the interior of tents, I travel solo so any tent is adequate, but always knock at least 1-person out of the capacity numbers suggested for any tent. I also own the Fly Creek 1 (2 pounds) and Rattlesnake 3 (6 pounds) for backpacking and versatility.
@discoverallcorners3 жыл бұрын
That's a nice collection! I agree, we still use the tent, and so far it held up really well. I like the ceiling height, too.

wow, very cool experience guys! Love the campground and mostly the fact you had it for yourself!!! I have to google the place we need to try this (pssst, I want to move to Utah next year, we will see). It seems pretty chilly out there. Very beautiful place, I wish we could afford to venture out like that at least once a year. But the best we can do is stay around the Wisconsin area at this time until our son gets home. By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what gimbal are you using. I just ordered the DJI Romin S, I think it's going to make my videos very smooth now. But i'm afraid it will take a long time before it arrives, I am a very impatient person, LOL. But you guys all have a great day.

I loved this video, it reminds me of when i traveled out there about 40 years ago. I bet there is allot of people out there now. Back then you had the whole out west to your self. Very nice video, thanks for sharing. I wish I could go out there again some day. God bless.

You did an excellent job making the video, and the kids are so cute. I researched the genealogy quite thoroughly, even was in touch with a Mrs Studebaker (yes, her husband was in the car business) who herself was a Chellberg. The name originated in Sweden as Kjellberg, but still connection! Keep making videos, you do a good job.

I wish! We ended up hiking mostly in Los Alamos area and then went to Taos. We did Williams lake hike with kids, they were brave :) Honestly I need to move out of our houston mad hole, I have enough. I need to live at place like Los Alamos or anywhere where you can go normally for a hike without dying under mosquito attacks and heat and humidity. Hope you are doing fine, let me know...

if you would drive in the ditch it would be a smoother ride. I don't understand why they don't fix that road. mosquitoes was terrible when I was up there. make sure you carry bug spray
@HighSpeedNoDrag3 жыл бұрын
It will cost you a pretty penny becoming "stuck" back in there.

Yup, the road is pure hell. And yes, a bug spray is a must on this hike when the days warm up.

As the BLM wants restrict access the road condition is the best way. 75 % of the American tourists do not like to hike or are too fat or old to do so.
@andrewbunch6596 Жыл бұрын
The road is not improved in order to keep visitation down. I've known people to turn around after only a 1/4 mile.
