I was shocked that this game’s story wasn’t written by Lemony Snickett. Watching her get constantly injured and just basically shrug it off got so ridiculous because of how they touted it being grounded in reality compared to the originals.

I’ll admit that I was heartbroken to watch you review TR2 and TR3 and not crack one joke about the rumored cheat code to make her naked then cut to her exploding.

Of course Lara was 16 when she was taking her top off- why do you think Father Patrick showed up?😂

I love your videos but when I play these adventure games I wonder why things like weapons and medkits are where they are and how did they get there. For example the guns on top of the sphinx's head

@@kspainter22 Thank you! To answer your question I'll ask another question. Do you ever play Crash Bandicoot and wonder how all those crates got there?

I just release how bad this game with any tutorials of any kind. I completed this game like three times on the max difficulty and I never knew that you can switch weapons if you're out of ammo on the second gun. I always assumed since at the started of the level the game asks what weapon you want then you have to use this weapon for the rest of the level. I guess I barely touched PDA in this game since all the secrets are really easy LMAO

I found all the save games on Stella's tomb raider site and so all you had to do was save after the tutorial was done and you never had to do it again 🤷🏼‍♀️

The new TR games are excellent on their own but I personally think the main character should have been someone else, not Lara. We love Lara for who she is - strong, skilled, cheeky, elegant and fearless. In these games she feels more like a victim of the circumstances, bunny lost in the woods full of wolfs. She feels weak and unskilled. All of her actions look more accidental than deliberate calculation. Her survival is mostly luck rather than skill. If that is the realness they were going for then it sounds pretty bad as they make it sound as if a strong, skilled, cheeky, elegant and fearless woman is less realistic than a whiny and unskilled little girl. No acrobatics? Just a big portion of what we loved her for was just totally taken away from her. What comes to the changes they made to the gameplay of the series - I am not sure why modern games hop onto the trend of realism in their gameplay. Realism is not an indicator of a good game, actually it is the opposite way too often imho, it just adds unnecessary complications to the games that make them quite often nightmarish to play. A good example of this is constant catastrophe Lara goes through the entire game. Everything is falling apart, all of the buildings are unstable, every ledge she grabs on crambles, she constantly struggles and it's not pleasant to watch a person suffer the entire game. She doesn't like to be there. I just finished playing the last one and I walked out of this experience as if I personally just survived a catastrophe of some sort. It's not inspiring like the previous ones which leads me to the next point. Tomb Raider used to be an exploration game but became a survival-shooter which is a huge switch. I think it's very important for a game to stay in the niche that it fills which usually seems to producers to be too specific so they try to go for more mainstream approach leaving us with pop games that are no different from a million others. You could put Drake there instead and nothing would change about it. The niche that Lara used to fill is empty now and nothing can fill it. It used to be a calming game that evoked the sense of wonder and mystery where you could explore locations at your own pace in peaceful solitude which added depth and uniqueness to them but now it's just a very stressful, fast paced, very crowded and sometimes pretty awful experience of being in very ugly places filled with corpses or just looking like trash (ruins in siberia or most of the locations on that island from 2013 one). I don't know why someone would think it's going to be enjoyable to be in such places, they just look and feel depressing as if we don't have all of that in our everyday life. Lastly rewriting Lara's history this many times is not a good idea either and expanding on unknown parts of her life would make a more seamless transition not only from the previous games but also for the potentially future ones. This rewriting has the side effects of disregarding and erasing the previous games completely (which is literally spitting to the face of the fanbase) but also creating this feeling that we don't know who Lara is anymore. Is there going to be a new Lara again in the future? Will Richard Croft have another version of his death as well as Amelia Croft? I doubt that as this version of Lara is dull and resurrecting the previous one is desperate which just means that these last 3 games were simply the last nail in Lara's coffin. Pretty disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the games are very good, the fact that it's Lara Croft makes them bad. P.S: I think Anniversary is the perfect example of the perfect Lara Croft game. Perfect balance of control, environment, locations, music, combat, puzzles and story behind. Pure exploration in blissful solitude. No chaos.

It's a great example of how your previous experience plus expectations for something can sometimes ruin your new experiences. I was born in 1998 so the first Tomb Raider for me game was exactly this one and it is the best video game I have ever played to date. The muted colour palette creates a very grounded and calm experience, the corridors make sense and don't feel like the drag on and the combat is fairly balanced. I really like the solitude in this game as it creates the feeling that you are in a unique place giving you time to wander around at your own pace. Comparing to the later games that started after 2013 where it's constant movement, very crowded and full of terror non stop this game stands out. I've played many games in my lifetime but this one has the best control over the character that I have ever experienced. Modern games including TR series have very awkward controls that make the character feel heavy and clumsy if that makes any sense meanwhile I feel in this game your movements are extremely precise. Overall having played all of the TR games I feel like the game industry is headed the wrong direction trying to make the games the most realistic they can be forgetting that realism is not the indicator of a good game it just makes it more challenging in the worst way possible.

Poor AoD… the final victim of Core’s terrible management and greed. If it had been given proper development time and not rushed out the door, it might have been the best TR game ever. But instead Core butchered it, cut out half the game and threw it out onto the market to get a cash injection. Truly one of gaming’s greatest what-ifs.

The originals for me are my favourites. I have never been able to truly like the new ones the way I loved the old. They were truly ahead of there time when I played them as a teen in the 90s

You’re wrong about the race against Von Croy in the tutorial: winning or losing opens different paths forward to the next section.

My jaw dropped when you mentioned the notes about the final boss battle. If they remake/remaster this game, I hope they add those elements.

It has been a total joy playing these games again. I did play 1 and 2 on IOS, but not 3. Have not played that game since then. But now what, though, will the other classic games be remastered as well? That woyld´ve been awesome!
