I was just like all of you in believing all the review hype and watching all the "scary" cryptic trailers. Saw it last night, and once again felt bamboozled for paying good money and taking the time and effort to see a movie in the theater. This was a big steamy turd. Good cinematography, the only positive thing I have to say for Perkins on this. Poor construct, poor pacing, BAD dialogue, scenes/actions that made absolutely no practical sense. Nic Cage doing Nic Cage cringy acting but in "serial killer" form. It was bad, and then he (she?) started talking, even worse. This will be on a streaming service for $4.99 in no time. When the ACTUAL and HONEST reviews of people that truly saw this movie start flooding in you will see these audience review scores take a dive. Avoid at all costs. Hail Satan. Bang a Gong.

Couples fear single people because they’re a threat to the status quo of commitment, monogamy, and daily routine. Single people can represent freedom, spontaneity, and unencumbrance. A committed relationship is beset on all sides by things which threaten the union. Sexual desire, need for novel experiences, simple autonomy all threaten the existence of the ideal marriage. Even if those feelings are fleeting moments of dissatisfaction. The underlying concern with many couples is the fear that their relationship will be unmasked for what it is, precarious, contingent, and at times too much work to be worth it. The more successful couples that have gone distance seem to transcend that seed of fear.

When Aurora finds out, it is not a slip of the tongue by the bartender. Jim tells the bartender after waking her up not to tell her, that he would. At Aurora's birthday, they were kidding about her age. She tell the bartender "there are no secrets between us" meaning herself and Jim. The bartender looks at Jim, and Jim is in agreement, no secrets. You see an android type acknowledgement. When Jim goes off for a minute, he tells her how much Jim was looking forward to waking her up. It is not a slip of the tongue, but a new piece of information processed by the android (no secrets), that cancels out the prior instruction by logic. Another interesting piece in the movie that is very easy to miss ... When Jim goes to storage to get a tool box and belt, they are actually his tools. They only have it up for a frame or two, but that is his name on the toolbox.

So nice to see someone else appreciate this movie as much as I do. When folks talk about their favorite movies it's almost always a list of classic or iconic movies but TBH Passengers is one of my favorite movies. As a lifelong sci-fi fan this hits on so many levels. My girlfriend loves it also and we have laughingly admitted that being alone together on a starship for the rest of out lives doesn't sound so bad. Should Jim have woken Aurora up? No. But humans are a social species and the pain of being alone was more than Jim could take. Though morally wrong I think most of us would ultimately have succumbed and done what Jim did.

Most of us are not heroes, which probably means most of us would have woken someone up, if not multiple people to either kill the loneliness or help figure out how to go back into hibernation. The movie has incredible aesthetics. I dare say perfect aesthetics. Many science fiction movies flash around and use dark lighting so you’re left confused about what anything looks like. What if those sounds actually are sinister? What if the darkness is actually hiding something?
