The movie Passengers (2016) is directed by Morten Tyldum, written by Jon Spaihts, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, and Michael Sheen.
Passengers tells the greatest story to ever grace the big screen, and it is CRIMINAL that this movie came and went so quietly back in 2016. When Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World A-lister Chris Pratt was asked why he did this movie, he simply replied 'Because it was the greatest script I've ever read.'
This is my commentary, analysis, and video essay on the movie Passengers. Please allow me 10 minutes of your time to show you why you have to watch this movie, and within a good movie is an EXCEPTIONAL story- one you just can't miss.
A simple premise, a malfunction in a sleeping pod on a spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet wakes one passenger 90 years early, but it gives way to an epic tale that will leave you shattered, and deep in a beautiful ponderance with a simple thought.. 'what would I have done?'

So nice to see someone else appreciate this movie as much as I do. When folks talk about their favorite movies it's almost always a list of classic or iconic movies but TBH Passengers is one of my favorite movies. As a lifelong sci-fi fan this hits on so many levels. My girlfriend loves it also and we have laughingly admitted that being alone together on a starship for the rest of out lives doesn't sound so bad. Should Jim have woken Aurora up? No. But humans are a social species and the pain of being alone was more than Jim could take. Though morally wrong I think most of us would ultimately have succumbed and done what Jim did.

Michael, you’ve given me hope in humanity. Very well put sir, and I think my wife and I (now a baby and one coming lol) could absolutely swing that. But maybe the same social stricter we speak of would also dictate that may not be the Eden we assume. But I love your write up, you nailed it brother! And the story this movie tells is just so alluring and powerful, I can’t get enough and I’ll never forget it. Ty so much for watching, and caring enough to leave a comment. I love you and yours taste in CINEMA!

When Aurora finds out, it is not a slip of the tongue by the bartender. Jim tells the bartender after waking her up not to tell her, that he would. At Aurora's birthday, they were kidding about her age. She tell the bartender "there are no secrets between us" meaning herself and Jim. The bartender looks at Jim, and Jim is in agreement, no secrets. You see an android type acknowledgement. When Jim goes off for a minute, he tells her how much Jim was looking forward to waking her up. It is not a slip of the tongue, but a new piece of information processed by the android (no secrets), that cancels out the prior instruction by logic. Another interesting piece in the movie that is very easy to miss ... When Jim goes to storage to get a tool box and belt, they are actually his tools. They only have it up for a frame or two, but that is his name on the toolbox.

Wonderful! Wasn’t aware of the tool ownership, that’s too cool! And 100% on board with the bartender taking that as an updated command, and boy was my heart pounding after it was said and that infamous glance. All at s beautiful bar that 100% pays homage to The Shining! Ty for watching!

I love this movie. I saw it about a year ago and then again recently. Most of us are not heroes, which probably means most of us would have woken someone up, if not multiple people to either kill the loneliness or help figure out how to go back into hibernation. The movie has incredible aesthetics. I dare say perfect aesthetics. Many science fiction movies flash around and use dark lighting so you’re left confused about what anything looks like. This movie does not. It is absolutely gorgeous. The acting is superb. The story is not complicated to follow. Thank you for your post!

Thanks so much Jeffrey for watching and for your thoughts, always love to see another fellow Passengers lover! And FANTASTIC points, both on us not being the heroes we may think we are in our heads (but not real life), and the lighting! The lighting is a HUGE reason this movie is so palatable and fun to watch. I couldn’t imagine the homage to the bar in The Shining without it being brilliant lit, good call brother!

Great video, this movie hits home for me. Not the correct decision but I think I’d have to wake her up also. Obviously the selfish decision but being alone forever isn’t something I could handle.

Ty so much my dude, truly appreciate you taking the time to watch! Passengers is incredible, criminally underwetched / spoken about movie! And isn't that interesting, shows the moral struggle.. not the correct decision, but do it always.. That is why this movie lives in my head rent free years later, that is why it's so good. An unbelievably touch decision, and one in which we can, very much aware, land on the incorrect one and still move forward. So good.

@@iwatchmoremoviesthanyou I watched a video from Nerdwriter about how the film could have been better if we started with Aurora's POV first to built up the mystery, suspense and thrill as Aurora begins to explore the ship and her relationship with Jim Afterwards we shift towards Jim's general POV and his experience of why he awakens Aurora and lying to her about the entire thing: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdGjq9he3su7k4k.html Additionally I am wondering how would things work out differently if Jim was actually honest to Aurora from the start and explain why he wakes her up

@@hamizanyunos1502 That's amazing! And an incredible thought experiment. I need to sit with it for a bit, but I can't wait to go on that journey- what a fantastic perspective. And as far as the honest right away, I guess the fear is the first impression would be so negative he may never be able to mend it, get to know her, and have the relationship he wanted. It leaves it more up to chance, so to speak. But idk, I love that point too! Hmm, I need to think about this lol.

I am not. But I also haven't ventured far into negative ethics, so I am ignorant to be completely honest. But no, I am not. I see how people may get there, but my wiring and experience would never allow me to do so. I think this life, our existence, is a statistical miracle and one that I cherish every second of. She’s not for everybody, and definitely showed that with the movie’s reception upon release. But boy, has a place in my heart for probably the reason above- I just dig the story so much. And then throw in The Shining homage and it got me, right there and there, and I knew I’d be a fan for life.
