I've played hundreds of hours of TOTK and either I've forgotten or haven't done whatever quest is audio with no visual cues. The only audio based thing i can think of is the shrine sensor, which DOES have a visual cue

Easy fix for the Dark Souls pause problem... Have the Pause menu itself be literally JUST a pause. No added functionality, no inventory management, no map, Nothing. Just a dimmed background and the word "Paused" on screen somewhere. Maybe certain settings like Brightness and the like, but nothing else. Prevents players from Pausing to handle inventory problems, because the regular Menus STILL don't pause. For the multiplayer side of things, prevent this menu from working during an invasion, and prevent the player from BEING invaded during a pause. During co-op, pressing the button sends a Request to pause, which all the other players have to actively agree to, and if all of them say yes, it pauses for a set time for all players. Literally every single problem that WOULD be caused by allowing the regular Menus to pause would be SOLVED by just moving the Pause elsewhere. To llustrate my point, Minecraft, Terraria, Dead Space, all three of these share the fact that the regular, inventory/interaction screens, do not pause the game. Shit still happens in the background, and you CAN die if you're not careful. All of these ALSO have higher level options settings that function as a pause. Terraria even gives you the option to have the REGULAR inventory work as a pause, and on PC will automatically pause in singleplayer, if the window loses focus. (Which is really useful for how much of a Wiki game this is)

I don't get any severe motin sickness but I just feel dizzy if the Field of View is too narrow. And no matter what I do I cannot adjust to narrow fov. I have to increase it to a value I feel good and then I have zero problems. With that said if a game doesnt have this setting I won't buy/play it. Even if this could be my favourite game. If developer doesn't include fov setting, in my opinion they're just disrespectfull for players. It's shame.

Ever since you pointed it out (On the podquisition) I really hated the fact they never gave the homeless chap a name either. Like you said there, it pretty dehumanizing, and I still maintain there was nothing stopping Brok from at least asking. However, I have since found out that with certain game choices, you DO find out their name. So its less a either intentional or unintentional bit of Dehumanization, but them hiding a important detail you have to find out. So while I have issues with the game not even letting you ask their name, there is admittedly a decent reason for it. Just because I love the game doesn't mean I won't point out faults though, as they kinda do this again with another character who only gets their job as a name. Which isn't cool considering they are the subject of in game racism.

Hey! Regular PAX West attendee here. Would absolutely kill for something like this. PAX actually has an app already, so it'd be great if they could add a "queue" tab to it. At minimum something like this ought to be enabled for folks with disabilities, but doing that could also serve as a great small scale test run before opening it up to everyone if it works well enough. I have to imagine this would be a rather manageable feature that would massively enhance the con-going experience. Lines for major events are probably the only big negative I have with cons, so if that weren't a problem anymore... I mean wow... It'd be much easier to check out everything without having to subject my daughter to waiting in line for an hour for something she doesn't care about, and my legs wouldn't feel like jello from having to stand and walk around contantly. PAX has several lounges and low-traffic areas I'd much rather stick around during downtime.

After my injury, I need those systems myself now but even before then, I honestly don't understand why there can't be these things just about everywhere. I mean, apps are super cheap and easy to program these days so there are 0 reasons why we can't have it and if we ALL had these systems, there wouldn't even be any questions about "skipping the line"

This was a really good video, thank you. I turned on basically all the physical and text based accessibility options straight away, and they were great to have; without them I would have quit. I'm loving the game but definitely hit the "wander around randomly gathering and buying ingredients in the hope that they help" point. I struggled to integrate all the info about what I needed for orders, and ended up resorting to a pen and paper list of orders to work out what ingredients I need and if I should buy the juicer or dehydrator next. There was a lot of burden on working memory, which I struggle with. Even with being able to pin orders and recipes there was still too much info to hold in my head about what I needed. I'd love an in-game "shopping list" where I could either add a specific ingredient or a flavour type (rare savoury) to shop and harvest. Controller map; i couldn't remember how to use Tauno's special ability; it would be nice if the controller map showed the current keymapping I still find some of the jumps tough and am over reliant on mist jump. The map markers were invaluable, buy them and designate a colour for townsfolk with outstanding orders so you can find them to deliver their meal.

Then you got the one disabilty no one wants to cure and you run into proactive opposition of it if you try to cure it, opposite handedness. In most industries, that's 10% of the population. In the video game industry, it's 90%. Americans kicked hiney in the pre-crash video game championships, and then Japan put a stigma on right handed gameplay. Also arcade owners made more money by limiting hand options. JAMMA was a cartel. No one could operate Japanese video games without going through JAMMA.

This weeks question: What are you hoping to see at GamesCom, either from Opening Night Live or in person at the show? ✨
@sveadezember403
@sveadezember403 14 күн бұрын
Hello, I don't have so much expectations... Would be nice if the GamesCom was more about gaming again (I heard, that in the last years, there were a lot of influencer who had nothing to do with gaming). And if it was accessible for people that visit in person? Like shorter waiting lines or secluded for people with sensory overload. Guides for sign language that are easily available. Ways to participate wether you are able bodied\allistic eurotypical or you are neurodiverse, use a wheelchair, and so on.

Vision correction can make such a difference, but I think it falls on the spectrum of "not a proper disability". Astigmatism as you describe it in particular is a magical feeling when it's adjusted. I'm privileged to have my glasses, backup glasses, and other backup glasses. Geography decides how cheap (or free!) those can be. And I know, in between sphere, cylinder, and axis (I have no idea about varifocals), with this or that coating and refractive index and what not no one can keep it all in stock. But ultimately it's not the access to frames (suggest luxottica might like a broom stick) and lenses. It's having the chance to see an eye doctor who can tell you that your vison could be trivially better.

I listened to a podcast talking about accessibility options in mobile and desktop OS's, and whether or not the hosts use or "should" use them. In the years following that lingering idea, I've found that a number of sensory or motion based issues I have with many apps are solved by unchecking the "Auto play animated images" setting buried under the "motion" sub heading. I love that this exists, because otherwise I can get trapped staring at an unresolved "satisfying" or meme loop in text chats, or motion sick when browsing a streaming service, or forgetful when trying to find an app in search results. I think the hosts of the discussion I mentioned were speaking as though using accessibility features in digital experiences were like using accessibility resources in the physical world, that false intuition that somehow it was like depriving another of that resource, or that by being in the audience of those who use a feature would distract from the "intended" audience of who it helps. I appreciate your story, and I've been more excited to see more features and ideas being explored in accessibility options, both in the OS and in apps and games. I too have gone too long between doctor appointments, coping with changes in my body, much like my IT clients have coped with an app or service behaving strangely, until I was called out for an unrelated issue and discovered something like their laptop open on top of a filing cabinet because wifi service in the building was poor and the ethernet port on the wall had failed.

Your point about concluding "well this is my life now, nothing I can do" and then not doing anything about it is so, so true. That was me for 15-20 years. I've started seeing a doctor and a dentist again regularly. My eyes have always been far too bad for me to ignore, but I'm sure I would've done that, too. Regardless, yes, if you can, please at least do check in on things. This also plays into your "you may not be disabled now but eventually you likely will be" point, though from a different angle. I definitely count needing glasses as a disability, and indeed that tends to be something that happens later in people's lives.

2 parts to this comment! First some love, then an answer to the question! Firstly the love- I am so so grateful for this podcast and everything you girls do, you make my car journeys to work a part of the day that I actually look forward to, and you are both so wonderful. Please never stop what you're doing! (Unless you need to, I'll understand😋) Answer to the question! - I started a new job as a child carer this year for children with complex needs, and since then, the world off accessibility has become a huge part of my life, I notice things now that I never thought about before, and I'm forever grateful to people like yourselves who teach people like me how to be a better advocate for accessibility. Following on from this, for me it's the people that are willing to listen and accommodate that are the best accessibility offering at any event or venue. Much like the lovely staff member who pulled up a bench for Arevya at Twitch-Con, people who are willing to listen and help, regardless of their prior knowledge will always be much appreciated. Even if its as simple as "Here's a few options we could probably sort out for you", the attitude of willingness to help goes a long way! Keep up the amazing work you two, lots of love from Joe in Wiltshire!❤️

wow, at 49 years old I find out, I have a hint of adhd, I used to read with my finger or with a ruler, because I hated reading in school, about 2 years ago, I read my first visual novel, and I haven't stopped reading them since then, well I slow down and stoped, about 2 months ago, but that is because I have become obsessed with writing my own, thank you for the video, I now know why I hated reading in the past, and why I love it so much now.

Thank you so much for the mention of the gathering! Re: talks being made available - as we had a very tight timeline to get the event together we weren't confident in being able to support online/remote attendance and did not seek permission to record talks.
