I got my bird (green cheek) here 6 years ago in 2018 when Parrot Stars first opened! Alexis was and is the most genuine, kind person who really cares about the birds. If I ever got a second bird I would definitely get it from Parrot Stars!

My Senegal was severely clipped when I got her. Her and her sister would fly crazy into walls and things so I understand even though I don't like it. I would take her on walks in the nearby park and tourists would take photos with her. There were several times when she would spook and try to fly away. I would never try to take her outside now she is fully flighted without her harness. I've seen her spook at a helicopter, a bike or a goose that decides to stretch it's wings. Unfortunately she is beginning puberty now so touching to put a harness on triggers hormones. Now I have a light duty cage I take her outside to water plants with me. I think birds should fly but I do understand that there are good reasons to clip. I loved taking her on walks when she was severely clipped but I wanted to cry every time she tried to fly and dropped harshly to the ground. We go to friends' houses so hopefully she stays socialized enough to entertain tourists. I've bought 2 parrots from Parrot Stars and everything in their store tells you they love parrots. Top quality from birds, toys and seeds. I wish they were closer so I could get the frozen chop on a regular basis.

Michael has been so impactful on the way I see my relationship with my parrot. If I lived in the US, I would have loved to attend. Sounds like it’s going to be a blast 🌟

I 100% agree with Michael. The caique I purchased from Parrot stars was in amazing shape with beautiful plumage. Their attention to diet and interaction with their babies gives them a wonderful headstart on the way to their future homes. I'm excited to see what the new babies have learned from Michael's training!

So I live in the California Desert where our 6:00 AM temps are already in the 80”s in the shade. What is the max shade temp. For a bird?
@parrotstarsАй бұрын
They can handle warm temps very well. The most important thing to offer is shade and easy access to water. When a parrot starts to over heat it will begin to pant (mouth open and a up and down motion of the tongue). If you notice they begin to pant, I would recommend bringing them inside.

Do you need to clip cockatiel’s wings?
@parrotstarsАй бұрын
Thanks for the question. We do not recommend clipping any parrot’s wings. We only suggest taking your parrot outside in an enclosed cage or carrier, or a secure avian harness.
@darlax692Ай бұрын
110% agree. After several times of taking her to her outdoor aviary, she jerked from my hand and was gone. Miraculously, she was spotted after 24hrs. It took another 4 hrs to get her to fly down to me even though we consistently practiced descending flight indoors and she is a strong Indoor flyer. There are so many hawks in my immediate area. We were both deeply traumatized by the experience. 2yrs later she is still afraid of doors to the outside.

Oh goodness! Well, thank goodness you got her back safely. Thank you for comment and for sharing your experience. Sharing stories allows others to learn from both our successes and mistakes with our companion parrots!

A great intro for a new bird owner. What is a good training food?
@parrotstarsАй бұрын
Pine nuts, walnuts or any reward your parrot enjoys. Ideally, something they eat immediately once it’s offered, and something they don’t have access to throughout the day.

BRAVO Dr Jason crean says hanging upside down is a legitimate form of physical excerise just like flying is for parrots. As flying sometimes gets used as the be all and end all as exercise for pets. It's important and essential HOWEVER bird researchers have found parrots spend the majority of their time foraging and hanging upside down and different positions to access foods. It's not only physically stimulating but mentally enriching for them also. Well done to you and your beautiful birds.
