I also wanted to share that I think you’re an excellent player. We will all run into the worst of the worst on the internet, but I appreciate that you love playing for yourself purely for the love of music. Embrace it and keep on playing!

Squiers have thinner bodies as well, so it's hard to put regular Fender parts on it, like a bridge or pickups etc.
@olddogguitars236 күн бұрын
The trem block on this squier is definitely different and I know the fender American string spacing and nut width are slightly different. I’ve not had an issue with pickups but the majority of parts are certainly not directly interchangeable and I’m sure that’s intentional.

I was off on the price in the video. Apparently they’re $799 on Sweetwater but they have a demo available for $599. You can also find a variety of prices in that range on Reverb.

Jack Pearson plays squier almost exclusively. I am teaching my son about this. You can mod a squier with great frets and a straight neck to be a phenomenal guitar. Great discussion here. I have had a squier classic vibe and I tend to be a PRS core and Private stock guy. It was an excellent guitar. We Just got him a Players Strat and we are modding to the Vega Trem and adding pickups. I think that guitar is great. He has a good "picker". Like Father like son fortunately.

"REW" (Room EQ Wizard) is a free and extremely versatile loudspeaker measurement program - I think you could use its sine sweep to get good graphs with your pickup in place of a mic. REW can also measure impedance if you build an impedance jig which only has one resistor for parts.. Its cool you "do" pickups. IJ only wound one about 52 years ago - perhaps #26 wire on an alnico bar magnet - DC was close to600 ohms IIRC -Ii used a tiny mic matching transformer to steup up voltage and it sounded very good - very hi-fi with extended treble- more so than a stock Fender P-bass pickup - probably too sterile for guitar use. The bobbin was in bad shape with soldering iron melted areas so did not mount it..

I've got the exact same guitar in the same Claret Burst livery Dan. Yours appears a brighter/lighter red top than mine in this vid, guessing possibly because of lighting? MIK pickups are medium output, 7.2k/8.3kOhm respectively.

Keep the combo, it will be great for recording and won't do your back in. I stuck 2 strips of 1x2 " wooden strips to the base of the Champ combo to protect the base and to help transmit bass through any wooden flooring( likecon some British made cabs). The new speaker is essential, a low wattage Alnico will make it sound closer to a Princeton rev. Swap the 12ax7vfor a 12at7 as it makes you turn up the master volume making the 6V6s work a bit harder and the sound becomes much more warm and the valve sound is much more prononounced. Small combos are very sought after at the moment that's why every brand has a "new" 5/10/15 watt amp design available and most if the expensive ones are very similar to this Champ in layout ( 2x6v6s ax7s ) but include much better speakers ( alnico 10" or Eminence GA-10 sc64) which makes the difference between a practice amp or a general purpose combo, for what they cost you would nut's not to have one( even for a spare).

I’ve got another combo that as a special run with burgundy tolex and a celestion greenback. It’s my go to. I’ve got a wooded storage crate I set it on but I like your idea as well. Makes a world of difference getting the speaker up off the floor.

Yeah I just got one in yellow shipped for 400 mint condition. I'm blown away. Not my choice of color but I'm going to black out all the hardware / pickguard (plus will install a Duesenberg trem). In my case the setup was beyond anything I've played in my 30+ years of playing. I didn't think action could get that low without consequence but no buzzing even on bends I can't believe how buttery smooth fast runs are. My only gripe is the 3 way switch. The 5 way on the standard/pro models gives a nice quack in the in between positions and I love that. I'm not entirely sure how to wire this myself for that type of thing having only dealt with strat re-wiring and I can't find much online for these Yamahas
@olddogguitars233 ай бұрын
Yeah I think it's a pretty standard PCB switch that would be replaced with a nicer Switchcraft or something similar. I've been trying to figure out the push/pull tone switch because I't obviously NOT a coil split but seems to give a similar tone. I'm sure the yellow is a great looking guitar!
@ikigai473 ай бұрын
@@olddogguitars23 Yeah I'm a bit surprised I can find nothing online to help me wire this properly. If you search in KZfaq 'revstar mod' there are a few vids but they're focused on the 5 way switch models. One is pretty interesting called "Fixing the flaws." That guy is very picky, and very smart. Yeah the yellow's okay to my taste, just not beautiful. I always like yellow and black though so making everything but the body black I think it will suit my taste more

I have an american standard tele, from the year 2000 i believe. It has a flat oval neck shape. I've never related so much to what you said about them and im glad its not just me. It feels like a struggle and my hands and wrist would actually get sore after a while. I just thought it was normal since my other guitar is an ibanez (yet way easier to play despite being slimmer). So here i was researching for buying another neck for my telly and im just so glad i heard you say that its been exacly my experience. So on another note, Im curious as to the thickness of that neck on the first fret and the nut width you went with, I'm considering a hard V(0.96-1) or a soft v (.93/.89/.87) according to musikraft measurements on tele blackguard models which is what im aiming for but i have no clue as to what measurements will suit my hands better. How are you liking yours so far? I know it depends on taste annd hand size, mine is average to small, but i do play a lot of thumb over the top as well as jazzy chrods. Any commennts on this would be much appreciated as im really trying to be happy with my tele. I love teles!
@olddogguitars233 ай бұрын
So, I've been checking some other necks out and have come to the conclusion that the shape has as much impact as the thickness. I prefer slightly thicker, .88 or more at the first fret but the standard C or soft V seem to be much easier for me to play regardless of thickness.
