Great work on the theorbo, and of course Rachel Podger has always been wonderful, but as the years go by her wonderfulness keeps refining itself. Something more complete in her sound here, and her phrasing as always wonderfully expressive. Fun to hear her on this repertoire.

Do lutenists sometimes get amplification when playing in such big halls?
@tobiasstudtheol4 жыл бұрын
@@breakfastdinner1576, I've never seen that during our performances but I don't want to exclude that this is necessary for solo recitals in spaces with bad acoustics. Of course indoor and outdoor performances are different, I recall outdoor performances where the lutenists had special mics that they could be heard better but this is certainly an exception.
@lelesiculo4 жыл бұрын
@@breakfastdinner1576 Not really...it happens sometimes, if needed, but normally you just go with the natural resonances of the instrument, which can be quite generous...

Like a time travel, feels like a good, aged wine and some jazz. I like the fact that music is really played on this recording as in the real sense of the word "play". The inclusion of the plucked instrument and other textural changes make it sound like a spontaneous jam session, although undoubtedly, the music is through composed as good and as complex as it gets in the literature.
