Yes a garage is great and your comment of "You can get loads in them" made me laugh. You are still restricted by the weight you can carry and that weight needs to be evenly distributed about the motorhome. Filling the garage with all your stuff makes the motorhome over weight on the rear axle.

Depends how you holiday I guess. I tend to travel around more than stay in one place so a motorhome / campervan makes more sense. If you tend to stay on a site for days/weeks then a caravan is more suitable.

For 3 or 4 days off grid you most certainly don’t need solar and lithium. A pair of decent 120amp leisure batteries will be plenty. Don’t get dragged into the ‘must have solar’ thought. We can do 7 nights without issue. Regarding the choice of motorhome, if you’re thinking of winter use then fully winterised unit is a must. We have a Burstner 6 wheeler and they are superb to drive and they feel very planted on the road but they are expensive on the toll roads in Europe.
@campingrallies

Thanks for your message, we do not usually just do 3 or 4 nights. We have done weeks previously. We usually camp year throughout 😊
@leeb3644
@leeb3644 2 ай бұрын
@@campingralliesremember that the batteries will recharge while driving. We’ve had motorhomes for 27 years and done a lot of touring ‘off grid’ and never felt the need for anything more than good batteries. We once looked into solar but the way we use the van and with the engine charging of the leisure batteries never felt we would benefit. 12volt led lighting throughout, charging phones and laptops, normal use of tv etc without issue. An older European motorhome will be far better than anything new, and you’ll probably find lots of extras have been fitted. Maybe look for something with a double floor, excellent storage and better insulation.

Like your end comments. Bit of a dilemma isn’t it. So many motorhomes to look around as well. One comment that you’ve said in this and other videos is caravan or motorhome. In my opinion both have a place. A caravan is for making a base for a while whereas a motorhome is for going from place and perhaps only staying for one or two days. Motorhomes have quite a few disadvantages eg calling in at a supermarket or tourist venue. A large garage is a must especially if you have a drive away air awning. Trust me there is a perfect motorhome out there - you just haven’t found it!

We definately benefited from hiring our first ever moho.... We went for a rollerteam 747 but didn't get on with the drop down bed as it closed a lot of the van off when it was down. We know we wanted a rear lounge and nothing was going to pursuade us from that. We went for a rollerteam 746 with overcab bed which we love (have a look at them from 2020 onwards. Very smart machine). The only downside of an overcab bed is in France you have to pay class 3 on the tolls for anything above 3m high and they've got laser cameras to confirm so difficult to argue with them otherwise. Good luck in your search but you deffo need to look at the rollerteam 746 👍👍

@campingrallies For the Sake of a few hundred pounds hire fee, you could be saving thousands in the long run.. I personally know a few people ego bought what they thought was the right layout for them only to find when living with it, it was the wrong choice after all... Could be an expensive mistake. As I said look at the 746 as I think it'll tick most if not all of your boxes. Good luck in your search.... 👍

We had same issues and ended up going for the kon tiki 675 high - turned out to be a great choice. You can still use the lounge when the kids don't want to get up as the over cab bed is quite high, the lounge / dining area is big enough to cater for bad weather ( 8 people will fit in comfortably!), the bathroom is a good size and has privacy doors on the kitchen and bedroom side, the rear bedroom has 2 single beds that can be converted into a huge double if you prefer and the bonus is the massive garage which easily swallows up bikes, chairs, table, BBQ and even an extra fridge for my beer. We usually do rallies and have driven it on a month long trip through France, Italy and Spain with no issues. There is a 2019 one available on flea bay if you want a look at some photos

I can't argue with Rich having had a couple of Bailey caravans but if you compare them to say entry level Swifts and Autotrails which will be at the same price point you would be getting similar quality furnishings and fittings. If you have the funds for the likes of a Kon Tiki then I agree there would be no comparison with the Bailey on quality. Good luck with your continued search

Glad you have decided to look post 2016, that way any future sale will always be compliant and will not be pushed back by age.. When we first started looking for a Mh back in 2008 a bit of advice given to us. Sit down and between you all set out your main MUSTS. Then add Nice to Have and then list Nos. Then apply that to the layout of the van as Must Nice and No. Once you have worked out what your settled van layout and spec looks like sit down on the web and look at a list of manufacturers Select one and look at all thier respective layouts that they offer and then you have identified a specific model number. that fits your wants and needs Many manufacturers over the years have the same layouts model numbers but just upgrade the finish and on board toys so that particular model will probably go back a number of years to 2016. At the end of the research you will have a list of targeted models that fits your wants. That way it is then a case of searching the stock of dealers through the Uk for your desired van models. That will save countless hours time and money visiting dealers who may not have anything that is on your want list. Also contact the dealers giving your details and tell them what model you are looking for. Any decent salesman will have you on file and when a particular model is traded in he knows to give you a call.
@campingrallies

Thank you, yes we definitely agree post 2016 is a must. We are currently waiting for the sale on our house to go through, so we have a bit of time to visit dealers to experience the differences between males and models, however it is a great idea to sit and distinguish between what we want/need thank you for taking the time to comment.
