A charming writing instrument; I particularly like the 'Writers Editions' that MB have to offer - I own the Agatha Christie, as well as Jules Verne's, 'Around The World In Eighty Days' & an earlier iteration - the 'Jules Verne' blue fountain pen, referencing another of his seminal works - Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. The Austen pen, whilst beautiful, will not be joining my collection; I find it a little too ornate. I am (also) fortunate to live in North Hampshire, Austen's county of birth - specifically Steventon, tho' she is best known for her residence in Chawton (as an adult); the house is open to the public should you wish to visit; she holds another significant distinction, being buried in the aisle of the North aspect (Nave) at Winchester Cathedral; not unlike your Mother, I worked my way thru' Austen's complete works (some years ago). This is the first time I have ever seen the Montblanc Jane Austen pen and it is stunning!!! I never expect to invest in a pen anywhere near the price I assume this one has but enjoyed celebrating your birthday gift with you, congrats!!! I rejoice with you and always enjoy watching your videos even though they have made me want to spend more than I can afford, but I get over it. LOL, I so enjoy the fountain pens that I have purchased regardless of the price; they give me joy!

I'm surprised by the ink. Saying that is 'umber' would definitely lead one to expect a greyish brown. But this is more like a blue with just a hint of brown. Interesting. My personal favourite Montblanc ink is Miles Davis Jazz Blue special edition, which is a kind of sky blue colour. I got given a little bottle of it by a boutique here in the UK as a gift a while back. But now it seems pretty much sold out, alas.

You can fit almost any fountain pen into your planners by putting in the clips rather than the bodies of the pens.

This is my dream pen!

Stunning pen. I have found the ink colour name not lining up with the swatch with a few Montblanc inks. Sometimes the name is spot on and other times you get a colour that is supposed to be brown that is actually grey.

Seeing all the beautiful charms is making me realize that I do really want a charm on my notebook. I absolutely love the Traveler's system because I can change up the inserts depending on what I am working on.

I have the following Montblancs: 149, Edgar Allen Poe, & Agatha Christie (perhaps others as well; I haven't been through my cigar boxes lately, so I'm not sure). I have pens with metal sections, but don't use them often. Your Austen Montblanc is pretty. I describe the cap color as Federal Blue. I enjoy your fountain pen enthusiasm, and envy you your excursions. I'm an old guy and have trouble getting around. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Umber is a fitting name for that ink; it essentially means "shade," which is why the word umbrella means "little shade."

I cannot believe any pen is worth over $1000! I have been using fountain pens for many years and not one of them was over $50 and they all perform very nicely. What exactly makes this pen worth it?

The "thing" or point about the flatness of the ink swatches has to do with the paper's GSM (Gram per Square Meter) value. Paper from Western companies (Leuchtturm, Endless, Claire Fontaine) with 80 GSM or less will not show the ink well. You'll 100 GSM or higher. Tomoe River paper is different, with 58 GSM will show very well the inks. I must say, I am a Montblanc fan! I have one 145, two different 146, and two 149. Especially the 149s I possess, one is a vintage from the '90 with a bicolor F nib, and the other one is a new one with an OB nib, I just love the nib.

Ha, I have a green hongdian with a bent nib. It works well for a leftie and I wanted to get a second hongdian with a finer nib, except I goofed and bought the same green pen ! the second one makes a wide bolder line and I’m unable to correct it. I like the weight of the pen and still want a different nib so I will give the black pen a try

I got mine in last week and have been enjoying it immensely. I'm not the biggest Austen fan, but I like the color scheme and design of the pen enough to pick it up. I agree it pairs nicely with the Glacier series, I have the Le Grande version. Right now I have all my Writer's Editions seated next to each other - Christie, Doyle and Austen. I also managed to get my hands on some new old stock of the Boheme purple retractable pen, so I will keep adding on to that line too. I agree with you the name Umber doesn't really suit the ink color. It comes through as more of a smokey purple instead of an Umber, but they attempted to mix an ink that was as close to what Austen used to self mix and write with.

Happy birthday! I’m a bit surprised by a ‘collaboration’ with Jane Austen who wrote with a goose quill. The colours of the pen are lovely, but my taste in Pens was shaped in the early to mid 1970s when they were all slim. I love the ink though!

My favorite adaptation is from the 90s it is a mini series and is six episodes it is the truest to the book. I do like the Kira version as well. I love all the Jane Austen Novels...
