Your cabbages are so worm free. Gorgeous, all. Thank you for sharing.

Here we have roly polys. The drought has made them go for my seedlings and there are way too many to kill. I put decaying leaves around the beds like that, near the seedlings so that they can eat them and not my food. We have a good relationship now. If you have advice for how to keep worms out of cabbage, please share, can't figure that one out.

What zone are you in? I am amazed at no insect chewed leaves, or how do you keep birds and squirrels off as well? My European motto is plant what you can eat, aside from flowers for the pollinators ❤

The problem with using "paper and cardboard" in a food garden is that you don't know what inks were used and what chemical treatments were used in processing that paper and cardboard, which may include lots of toxins. Some inks use LEAD, for example. I love to recycle paper and cardboard through city recyclers, but I never have used it in my organic garden.

Love your set up, I tried a very similar, nearly identical base to my outdoor raised beds a few years ago, however, the plants did not thrive - when talking to more experienced gardeners about why my plants were so coming up so yellowed & scorched looking I was told I’d used too many browns & not enough greens when laying down the base of cardboard, newsprint, dried leaves & grasses & unfinished compost- topped with a layer of organic garden soil. Was advised that it should have been 50% greens to browns? Wondering if you have thoughts- ended up amending like crazy with sea soils etc. things are working better now but I am looking to add a couple new raised bed & second guessing whether to repeat this approach…

I am feasting on your videos since discovering them 3 days ago! Please tell me what zone you are in or what part of your country. I need to adapt your techniques to this part of the high desert where I live. I'm creating a much cooler and more moist micro climate here by use of various sized shade and fruit trees, deep mulch, and water cachements. Can never recreate the northwest climate tho!

What are those bags?
@user-me2gt5dm4oКүн бұрын
Looks like a silicone freezer reusable bag. Some ever have flat bottoms on them. If that is what it is, I really like mine. I Dice up & freeze vegetables flat then transfer into them so for quick meal they done.
