We are sad to hear of Benny's passing. Benny worked for a number of years as a Dock Superintendent in Dublin Port -having worked at sea from a young age.

Re the Cattle..On the small ferries of old, it must have been mercilessly rough for the poor beasts. It was bad enough for the humans on little ferries.

We crossed from Fishguard to Rosslare and back again the same day to collect a large, fragile antique item from Wexford..It was lovely to see the coast of Ireland appear through the early Dawn. Lots of golden gorse about, {March time} so wish we could have stayed longer ..I was afraid of being seasick on the crossing, as St George's Channel is a very rough part of the Irish Sea, but I used meds, so was thankfully ok. 1:21, the Y shaped water tower{?} is easily visible from the Sea. Staff on the Ferry were lovely..But think a lot of locals were being replaced with 'Cheaper' overseas workers, which is wrong {They should be paid the same} Edit: the item we bought was made in London around 1870/1880 and would have originally been packed and sent to Ireland by rail and Steamer around that date.

We talked to quite a few locals in both Fishguard and Rosslare Harbour who habitually enjoyed a day-trip to the other side of the Irish Sea and back. We feel it's such a privilege to live so close to the ferry link.

@@portspastandpresent On a lovely calm day, it would be very doable. On a rough one, less so! The staff {Stena Europe} said a few days before we went, that Artics were tipping over despite their lashings, and that passengers weren't enjoying the journey..But on a smooth day, much better. :)
