@@booger65man eh I think it would’ve been harder actually. That’s a 15 mile trail if everything goes well. We accidentally turned the ride into more like 80. If you hiked it (which people do), then you better have plenty of gear. Much easier to carry gear on a motorcycle. Plus having the chainsaw is nice!

Crazy ride man!!! I can't believe you hadn't turned around sooner. I'm sure after this you'll be investing in some emergency gear, like a small tarp, or bivy in case you ever have to spend an impromptu night in the woods again. Happy you made it out without ever hitting that SOS button, and this is sure to be a story for the books for years to come.

@madjack_757 Күн бұрын
Yeah dude it was a gnarly one for sure! Its funny cuz I actually have all the things I would have needed- bivy, survival blanket, life straw, jumpstarter kit, etc. I literally had it, but it was ALL at home. Lesson learned. Yeah I'm stoked I didn't have to hit that SOS, cuz that would have been really defeating.
@Dmantherock
@Dmantherock Күн бұрын
@@madjack_757 I've yet to hit the SOS, but I've also yet to spend a night in the woods without intention. But I carry all that stuff in my backpack. A small tarp and bag of guy lines in the saddlebags that rarely leave my bike. Also, I got a kickstarter and electric start so luckily I don't have to worry about a dead battery, though that has also yet to happen on this bike. Had batteries die while out on other bikes before though. Throw a space blanket in your first aid kit for next time. It's small, and you'll never notice it, but if that ever happens again, it's better than nothing. After watching this though, I'm refusing to ride without my puffy jacket on the bike ever again if I go more than 5 miles from the truck or town.

Because you cant break the glass an pull out the emergency gear if you dont have it. That garmin in reach is awesome. I ride also with a downloaded map GPS glonass receiver. Why not fly your drone up high to guide you out of that situation? Next time, bring maps and a SPOT device and extra food/water.

@madjack_757 Күн бұрын
Hey, I had a gps map that ultimately led us out. I also had a garmin in reach that I used to communicate with the outside world like Spot. Extra water is not always possible. I should have brought a water filtration tool to drink from natural sources without worry of giardia. With my drone, though I am licensed, I am legally bound by the FAA to only fly no higher than 400 feet AGL. Regardless, we were so deep in the woods, it would have done us no good. I hope you watch the final episode, as it clears up a lot of peoples questions.

I ride in the backcountry and question this "30 hour" 'claim. One will usually run out of fuel in about 3 hours. Let's say you smartly invested in larger capacity gas tank (does not appear to be one.) But, ok, fine. That "might" get you 5 hours of riding- tops. Let's say you carried a gallon of extra fuel, then maybe 6 hours and I am being generous. How did you ride 5x's longer than possible without running out of fuel? You did not have a support vehicle with extra fuel. Did you have invent a fuel management system that allows you to get 5x's the range? Some clever folk stash fuel at various points along the trail they are going to take on, but it is not common and especially since you got lost. Being at higher elevation helps but only <3% mpg. This is offset by the type of high demand riding you are doing, including hill climbs. I will also point out that although I did see you in the dark and daylight, this video was only 49 minutes long. I guess your camera batteries did not last as long as your fuel. I saw the first Episode as well. Either way, that is some nice country back there, but perilous terrain. Many hazards including animals, off-camber and loose terrain. A rescue back there would be near impossible. We really want to know- how does one ride "30 hours" on 3-4 gallons of fuel (the average size tank.) If it averages about 50 mph, that could carry you 150 miles, but not in with this type of hill climbing and rock scrambling. For everyone I know, we start in the morning and have to refuel- every time around lunch time. Somehow you want us to believe that you were able to magically ride 30 hours- through two sunrises. This is simply impossible my friend.
@madjack_757
@madjack_757 Күн бұрын
Hey, I gotta debunk a few of your claims. 1) I am running an oversized tank that can go well over 100 miles 2) We had a couple liters of premix fuel in carters bag for his bike and the saw. 3) Our motors weren't running for 30 hours straight. We had crashes, repairs, and sleep along the way. 4) This ride in its entirety was less than 100 miles. Just a slow slog the whole route. Our average speed would be less than 20 MPH on this ride. Heck, most the ride we were less than 10 mph!! I hope this settles your concerns
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT Күн бұрын
@@madjack_757 I get it. You had an epic, pre-planned, overnight mountain ride. For views, you framed it like you were lost and desperate for 30 hours. Not the case at all. You said you can't fly a drone over 400 feet due to FAA. If you were truly lost and desperate, FAA would be the last thing on your mind. A couple of liters of premix might buy you an extra hour. You are talking to a fellow rider here. Bottom line, you were capable of about 5 hours of motor-on, riding time. No more. How you stretch this to 30 hours is beyond me. I should ride with you sometime if we can ride for nearly a day and a half on one single tank + 2 liters of fuel. You need to patent this. My riding buddies and I are not as smart as you. We always run out after a few hours. Somehow you make ~ 4 gallons last a day and a half. Mileage does not mean much unless you are on a road. It is how hard the motor is working. I guess you rode for an hour, shut down for 5 hours. Rode and hour, shut down an hour, and so on...over the course of 30 hours. Seems odd, but it's your video and your claim, not mine. After 5+ hours, you are simply out of liquid energy my friend. No need to try to convince me. At least I see you have made it out to Moab, UT. Agree, it is like mars. You are a good rider if you took on Pritchett canyon and survived. Moab is where I ride and UTV. Best to never ride alone out there and especially on any trail rated above a 6. You can fall and get hurt. There are also mountain lions in the valleys- especially Long Valley. Hell's Revenge, Chicken Corners (amazing) and Shafer Trail are all epic and worth exploring. No bikes on Shafer though. Long Canyon is also really fun. When in doubt when riding in Moab, just walk the bike up the shelves- motor assisting you. The trails are infamous. They will let you in, but rarely let you out. Saw that rider with the broken arm. You could have broken bones too with all the spills you took. Hope your knee is ok. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r52FbLB53s-bdo0.htmlsi=cfJjMc_IQ27c_keC&t=1715 What trail was this? You said it was a 9 so I am guess it was Pritchett Canyon. I rode part of it- it's no joke. You can cross it off your list. It is a "badge of honor" trail. Next, try this one (not hard- just fun.) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ab98lMiIp6yxqnU.htmlsi=C468DnK7gsr55sg0 Cheers!

@@madjack_757 I am not accusing you or calling you anything. We all simply want to understand how, in your own words... "We *RODE* for *30 HOURS*" ...on *one tank* of gas. You are yet to explain that my friend. I simply and quite accurately pointed out how that is an impossibility. I don't care if you have a slightly larger tank and a liter or two of juice in your pocket. No way you are riding more than ~5-6 hours tops. Especially with all those hill climbs. What do I believe? You charged up the drone and video camera. You set out to ride a bit, camped over night- had some nice food, made a video (kept it under 400 feet) and rode back to town in time for a nice meal. All good times. I just don't like when folks exaggerate for the sake of views. 30 hours? I will call that out all day long. In fact, I shall now subscribe to your channel. Real talk- for everyone in here, please answer in simple terms. How do you ride for 30 hours on one tank? That is your title- we "Rode" an active verb. If you cannot answer that simple question, then tell us, how many hours of actual riding (engine on) would you guess you did? If it is more than 5-6, please file a patent on your fuel sipping method. I have been riding over 30 years and I could never get more than 5-6 hours on a tank + 2 liters. In the backcountry, going up hills, it's more likely to last 3-4 hours, if that. Certainly not 30. No idea why you would get offended by yourself. I am simply curious. I want to know. In fact, we all do. Instead of answering, you are getting flustered and offended. That says a lot. It is a simple question. 30 hours. I also asked if you sat (motor off) 5 hours for every one hour of riding. That is the only way the math works. Sleep maybe gives you 6 hours- motor off time. You still have 24 hours left. Just trying to understand your math. I have never, ever been able to ride for 30 hours on 1 tank- ever. I ride in the backcountry. We always have a fuel plan- you really have to or by lunchtime, you will be pushing it back and that is not fun. This is what riding for 30 hours on one tank looks like in reality. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q851Zsajy9GueGg.htmlsi=q_F7QTawCBwxtOh5&t=1 Namaste.

Learned in the Military after spending time in desert to carry the following in a compressible stuff sack: Down Hood, down Vest, waterproof poncho, fire starter kit, and flexible branch saw. Temps could easily drop below freezing at night after a day of messing about in the heat. The hood, the vest and the poncho would be more than enough to keep my core where it needed to be. Continued the practice when I started riding off-road. Started including medical kit as well. It was worth the weight on more than one occasion. Thank you for sharing this adventure....Wow.
