But some people use the car with 200,000 miles when I poor the oil out looks like a cream full of deposits and residual stuff, even the magnets inside the bottom are stick with that thing in this kind of treatment I replace the filter too. Some transmissions are so worn out and still running even do have that creamy oil and when is change to a new one the transmission stop working because that creamy fluid is what the worn unit with no maintenance need for fill the gaps created from worn and tear. So, is to late to change the fluid after the life span of the unit. The same happens with the engine, never change the oil, when you replace it the engine begins to smoke, loose power, drink lots of gasoline, make lots of noise. That is the reason someone invent the word maintenance. If the oil is clean and give the need it maintenance is possible that the filter can give more service.

I agree. My 20 year old xl-7 is on the same filter. There is no instructions on manual when to change transmission filter. I didn't even know it uses a filter till like a year ago😂

No need to remove the upper assembly, but if you do, properly lubricate the shaft and U-joints. Also, you forgot to remove the water tube and replace the top seal.

It depends on the construction of the filter element, fiber or just a screen type.

You are absolutely right. I drive a 2017 Chevy cruze, and to change trans filters, you have to take the whole thing apart

If transmission is sealed and company claims life time no need fluid change so we should change fluid and shouldn't open to change the filter as if there is some dirt it will go out with regular transmission fluid change every 30 to 40 k km.

Some transmissions are not "Sealed." Almost all the transmissions I've encountered (Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai) all had vent holes on top of the transmission case to allow the "crankcase" to breathe. That's what a friend of mine told me who happened to be a transmission mechanic. I pretty sure that those transmissions will breathe in some dust driving down the road. My Hyundai Excel took water through that vent in a Houston flood that submerged that part of my transmission. To fix the issue my buddy flushed my transmission for a case of Bud. He used about 25 qts of fluid to do the flush. That is when I learned the only way to get a relatively complete fluid change is with a flush machine. I bought an "03" Suburban which does not go into reverse immediately when it is cold; which brought me to your video. I will probably change the filter, retorque the valve body bolts, and clean the pan or take it to a shop with a flush machine and have them do it. It will be pricey for sure. Anyway you wanted comments and that's my two cents. Thanks for your insights and the well done video. I will Like and Subscribe. Have a blessed day.

I live on a steep mountain. I disconnect my transmission cooler, run the engine and completely flush the fluid every 30,000 miles. It has 160,000 miles on it and shifts perfectly. My neighbor with the same make and model just spent $2800 on a new transmission at 145,000.

By that logic, transmissions should be made without filters and no engine filters too.

Filters and oil are cheaper than a transmission at 3 - 5k The Filters get dirty because of wear material in your transmission ..

The worst thing is that after installing the efi, they don't want to install efi control timing, n the most important! getting the efi dial in on dyno by a good tunner. Self learning could only do so much.

@PetesGarageandperformance 17 күн бұрын
Yep. It’s pretty easy to install if you don’t use the timing control. But then you’re only using half of the EFI’s capability. It’s pretty nice to be able to just add a couple of degrees at a time and watch the power go up on a dyno vs recurving a distributor.

I understand what your saying. If i had metal debris in my fluid, i should fix the clutch packs for example if that was the problem, change the fluid & filter. It sounds great bc trannys after a lot of milege should get a nice service & it would probably go another double milege. And with lousy quality cars, the material probably is cheap or not made right & complex & buried deep...we should be happy if we're fortunate enough tohave a dipstick. If i could change it & the filter often maybe id extend a bit longer but with age & time..ppl end up buying something else without taking too much risk for more issues. Nice video.

I purchased an old a 2002 Odyssey van and it started clunking in the 2nd and 3rd gear. I have to drive it very lightly and ley up on the gas before each shift. I was told to to remove the solenoids and check the little screen filters in them.

The rule in my backyard is never change fluid on an old transmission. Especially if it's brown fluid. Many people have reported transmission failure after changing the fluid.

Ok…so yes huge debate here…99% of the time you do not have to change the trans filter. But remember if you don’t change drain and change your trans fluid every 50k to 75k after the 100k interval you asking for trouble. The main problem is people put these heavy duty vehicles 3/4 ton and above under an enormous amount of pressure. Everyone I know that has one pulls too much weight for too long. The transmission heats up too high and breaks down the viscosity and ingredients that are supposed to protect the clutches. The clutch eventually disintegrates and stope up the filter. The gears are now in an oven and they have no chance causing a catastrophic failure. Mechanics will stand by the microscopic cutting that build up in the filter. Ya ok…we will see, if you just drain and change regularly and insure you’re not over heating you will be fine. But if you don’t service your transmission and it does break prior to warranty term…they will not cover it.

I use my Chevy truck for WORK and change the fluid and filter every 30,000 miles . Wipe out that pan and look for metal particles or burnt fluid. Maintenance always pays off fot the cost of a simple filter and 4 1/2 quarts of fluid.

ABOUT A MONTH AGO I CHANGED THE TRANMISSION FLUID, A TAHOE 006, IT WAS A PAIN TO REMOVE THE FLUID PAN, SO I REPLACED THE GASKET AND PUT IT BACK, NEW FLUID AND EVERYTHING, AND FOR ME ,THE MOST IMPORTANT, NO LEAKS, AND THEN THE OTHER DAY I WAS CLEANING MY GARAGE AND , SURPRISE, I FOUND MY NEW FILTER, TOGHETER WITH THE OLD ONE !! I FORGOT TO INSTALL THE NEW FILTER !! SO I'M DRIVING WITHOUT TRANMISSIO FILTER, I DON'T WANT TO GO AND REMOVE THE PAN, INSTALL THE GASKET, BE SURE THAT THERE'S NO LEAKS, WHAT WOULD I DO ?? DRIVE IT LIKE THAT ?? THERE'S ANY HARM TO THE TRANNY ?? upps, sorry for the caps, i forgot that to, any advice about driving without the tranny filter??

I own a 2013 Ford Edge with the 3.5. This water pump keeps me up at night. The repair will probably cost closer to $2000 if it is repaired correctly. If you replace the water pump you might as well replace the chain and guides. I am trading this perfectly good car for a 2006 to 2010 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 V6.
