As you can tell from my picture that I am a Nujabes listener lets say, I discovered Nujabes while walking in the cold streets of Tokyo last year, I went to record shops in Tokyo and listened to his music and other Japanese music, knowing the language helped me a lot especially when it comes to being emotionally connected with it, I am still lost in the world of Japanese music, but it is a journey since I am living here I will get exposed to them gradually

I actually think Gordon is their best album full stop. Hit after hit after hit after hit. Hello City, If I Had $1000000, Be My Yoko Ono, Brian Wilson, Enid. All fantastic songs, but also the lesser played tracks on the album are solid. King of Bedside Manor is this eclectic fast paced comedy number that they all absolutely go nuts on, Box Set is this snazzy sort of love story that shows off not only Steve's song writing talents but the bands individual talents that unify into a great composition, and Crazy is the best showcase of Ed's ability as a performer and also has some of the best micro songwriting on the album, with lines like "I climb the walls of my mind just like climbing on a jungle gym" or "I don't need a rubber room but that might be nice" It's just an all around solid time. Long, yes, but worth it.

I also need to gush about how good Enid is. That horn section. the drum skin rub sound that keeps coming up in the song. The lyrics. Especially that bit you mentioned at the end where Steve is singing the chorus, the Creeggans are doing harmonies about the things that they could do for Enid, and then Ed is just off to the races showing off his improv and rap abilities making up random shit he could do for Enid. It's just so well crafted and put together.

Hello!!! Really surprised by your analysis of Seru Giran I am 60 years old and I was lucky enough to be a contemporary of the band and the opportunity to go see them from their first performance to their farewell. 23 times in total. In different scenarios. Small theaters, arenas and large stadiums/festivals. Even a very special date where they performed with Spinetta Jade. Unforgettable!!! A super band with excellent musicians (Pedro Aznar dazzled me more than anyone else) who knew how to manage egos and were friends (and still are!!!). Even David Lebon made a solo album (Nayla) and the support band was... Seru Giran As time went by, Charly & Pedro recorded an album together and made several collaborations Not long ago (2019) Pedro made a remastering of La Grasa de las Capitales and you can see them together listening and getting excited (unfortunately Oscar Moro, who died in 2006, is not here) www.youtube.com/watch?v =gMGyoXcbAQc&ab_channel=SeruGiran And they have also made a presentation at the Teatro Colon a few years ago. In short... I thought your analysis was very good, since unfortunately Argentine rock (we call it "National Rock") never had greater significance in the English-speaking world and I think it is very unfair that due to the language barrier we have lost hearing (massively) to many great bands that this country has given Greetings from Argentina!!!!

They were fantastic yes, even in 'One Week': "I have a tendency to wear my heart on my sleeve/I have a history of losing my shirt" I.E he loses his mind, later they change the back line to "take off his shirt" He's willingly causing the domestic arguments. It's probably the happiest sounding song about a toxic relationship ever written. "I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral/Can't understand what I mean... Well you soon will." They weren't the first band to do this sort of thing, obviously, but they were mine. I will always love their "happy songs about depression" as Page once described them.

The Wrens is one of my personal favorite bands, with Meadowlands being in my top 10 albums of all time. And I can literally not thank you enough for making this, I had known about Car Colors and Aeon Station but not the whole almost 2 decade wait for the 4th album. I can genuinely tell you put a hell of a lot of time and care into this.

No brainer duh. It's a 3 chord song played at the open position plus a little break on the high G-B-E strings. It easy. And fun too. It is the second song I ever learned to play

After watching the show, I did leave very confused, but it's definitely an interesting piece of fiction that plays well with the established tropes of soap operas right from the beginning. As for a possible interpretation... I was strongly convinced by the idea of Ryuzaki and Shingyouji being representatives of Good and Evil due to the repetition of that chapter card which reads something like "The Man with Two Faces", which is used in the first episode to refer to Ryuzaki, but appears again later in the series when he's started dismantling the company. As they're almost textbook definitions of opposites, with Ryuzaki trying to break everything and manipulating people, while Shingyouji despises trickery and tries to save especially Shizuku and Ninagawa. In the end, sure, they both die and the company is in shambles, but it seems that the secretaries are finally trying to pull their lives together. What left a particularly strong impression in me was the secretary who dated the director like 20 years ago and still resents him to this day saying that she will try to find her own happiness in life after being bitter for so long, which gave me the impression that Ryuzaki and Shingyouji's actions can't simply be considered good or bad by themselves, but are part of a bigger process. While the video didn't touch upon Shingyouji that much, I think it's interesting to mention that he's about as much the focus on every given episode as Ryuzaki, though the stuff that happens to him seems much more normal compared to all the antics Ryuzaki is pulling with his evil superpowers and reality bending santa claus psy ops. His mother is an overwhelming and controlling presence in his life, at the same time he's trying to process all that happened in his childhood, particularly the amount of violence his mother used against him as a child. What I find particularly interesting is that, while at the beginning it seems like they're maybe trying to frame it as a regular drama show that could have a happy ending and a regular conclusion, it almost seems like they're going to pair off Shizuku and Shingyouji, because of their positions in the dynamics of the show, but at the same time they almost seem like siblings? I mean, we don't get a lot about Shizuku's dad and it could be possible that Shingyouji's mother was his lover, but this is just me speculating a lot. There's this interesting scene where Shingyouji shows his scars to Shizuku (and of course, Takashi Sorimachi is a very hot man, just getting this out of the way) as a way to help her process the whole situation with her dad. He doesn't seem to show any desire towards those two women (Shizuku and Ninagawa, whom he also hangs with a lot throughout the show). Around the last two episodes, he does in fact confront his mother about all she did to him, trying to make her reflect about what she's done and how she's still acting like she did in the past (she's controlling to the point that he can't even eat a bento prepared by Miyabi, but she doesn't necessarily use physical violence anymore), and it's right before he goes to beat up Ryuzaki in the company's tower. I still don't know what to exactly make of the kissing part after they just go barbaric on each other, but considering Ryuzaki's "unnatural" eyes in the scene and how it happens right as the sun is rising, it does seem much more like a symbolic event than anything else. I guess you could say that that's the only way Shingyouji found to help Ryuzaki's situation, after everything else didn't work? But still... I still wouldn't say this interpretation is perfect, but it definitely helps me process all that happens in this show... Lord, it's a lot. 10/10. Would watch again

I used to binge watch Beck, and I always dreamed of playing in a band. I started rewatching Beck and then decided to pick up the bass again. Not long after, I met my best friend and guitarist for our band Embering Effigy. I mean it when I say, I wouldn't be living my teenage dream of being in a metal band, without Beck Mongolian Chop Squad!

Thanks for the passionate video essay. There are definitely other mangaka who have that sort of subtle, pastoral vibe (heck they are probably influenced by Adachi), but typically aren't mixing that with the typical boys comic formula of sport/pretty girls. That's probably why he stands out and is enduringly popular.
