Actually this is the War of 1812, we somewhat consider it our second war of independence. The Revolutionary War gave us our domestic independence. The War of 1812 really gave us out international independence.

The U S Army has several Special Operations Forces. The Rangers, (were black berets now tan berets), Special Forces, (green berets), Delta Group, (green berets), with their own specialty set aside from regular Special Forces operations. The U S Army also has smaller groups that are Special Operations Capable Like, Snipers and "FIST" teams, that are attached to special Forces type groups. The U S Marines have a different Special Operations. A U S Marine can become a U S Navy SEAL it's harder and he has to switch to regular U S Navy. U S Navy has U S Navy SEALS and Underwater Demolitions. The U S Marines were called leather necks because they wore a leather collar to keep from getting throat slashed in sword fights boarding ships. Then called Devil Dogs, a name given to them by the Germans in the battle of Belleau Wood, France, 1918. There are relaxed fitness standards for females in the U S Army and the U S Marines. U S Army and Marine snipers are trained in the same U S Army SOTEC, U S Army and U S Marines are trained at the same U S Army Airborne school. As are a lot of U S Marine MOS's trained at U S Army. This is due to the U S Government Underfunding U S Marines. The gut with the twisted grip on his rifle, is because he was left-handed. If he didn't hold the rifle like that the hot brass ejected from the rifle will hit him in the face. They used to issue brass deflectors for left-handed shooters, but they get lost really easy. As far as funding I don't think U S Marines were ever issued brass deflectors. In the U S Military, you can try Rangers straight out of your Adanced Individual Training, like Airborne or Air Assault Training. However, Special Forces, and SEALs are appointed by Command Officer's. You can say you want to try but it's up to your Commander's Decision if he thinks you have what it takes, just like OCS. Sometimes they will approach you about it. Special Forces training takes years, and you can't go from civilian to Special Forces. You have to enlist and do basic training and AIT.
