I am fairly certain that this only works on Windows PCs, at least the version I reviewed. If you are on a Mac, you will need something like Parallels Desktop to get it running.

I like Mod3. Moving all data to the second card and the FTP server are great feature additions. I haven't tried the auto-update, but that's a nice addition as well. Definitely the way to go if you are a fan of stock.

@@muzzworks they're both in there for sure. I took it apart and put it together again multiple times. I installed JelOS and MinUi a couple of times and nothing. Yesterday I was able to get sound from the headphone jack though, but the music was incomplete. So I reset all the retroarch settings via the JelOS menu. It started to work normally afterwards, but now I need to put the speakers back in since I had removed them out of frustration lol. I should have time tomorrow to work on it to see if the retroarch reset did the trick somehow.

What is koriki? Is that a new os? Of so what does it do better over mod3? I’d love to get something like game manuals and possibly download videos to the rg35xx plus too

I personally prefer GarlicOS. It's a cleaner, more cohesive experience in my opinion, but I get the appeal of Batocera. Batocera checks all the boxes when it comes to customization and feels very polished at this stage. GarlicOS 2.0 still has a way to go before it can be used as a daily driver on the XX Plus and H.

Are you using the retroarch version of the emulators, not the standalone (i.e. second menu item)? I believe the shortcuts only work in the RA emulators. I will update to the latest firmware and check.

I've heard and seen good things about Batocera Lite too but sadly it's still in the beta stages.

I did notice that, but for a beta, the known issues are quite small. To be fair, that stock firmware on the RG35XX Plus is of beta quality at best, as well, in my opinion 😊. I've only played around with it for about an hour, but it seems solid.

It has many options and customizations, similar to ArcOS and JelOS. I would say it is comparable to those. The simplicity and user experience of GarlicOS and OnionOS are better.

I agree, it would be a solid device if made into a Miyoo Mini Plus-sized device. My only issue is that I think the price would jump at or above the $100 USD mark, making it a tough sell for that price. It would be competing with the Retroid Pocket 2S and 3+ (now on sale). While I would probably buy it, I am not sure GDK could sell enough units. If they could release a GDK Pixel Plus at $90 - $99, then yeah, I think it would be a great alternative to the RG35XX Plus and Miyoo Mini Plus.

It would be for sure. I would buy it. So they could count on at least 2 sales.

I think if the screen was 3 inches or 3.2 max it would fit a niche size of being in between the two Miyoo Mini sizes.

I have not noticed the HDMI issue, although I have not used the feature much. As for the battery I do a complete shutdown to avoid this issue intirely. I have heard that new versions of JELOS have helped but I have not tested to see if it has. I would say just do a full shutdown once you are done playing.

@@muzzworks i always do, that’s the problem…even shutting down it drains to zero in less than a day…weird…hdmi I tested and the lags are about control response…didn’t tested Bluetooth control yet…but I believe the problem will persist

So, I am thinking there might be another issue, possibly even an issue with your unit. I had mine fully shut down (i.e., Start Button -> Quit -> Shut Down System) and 100% charged in my backpack since this past Friday morning. I just booted it up to see if there was any battery drain. It is still sitting at 100%. Just for your reference, I am using version 20240117. Can you verify that you have the latest update or at least the version I am running?

I personally dont think it is. If compared to the Retroid pocket 2S, Miyoo mini plus or RG35XX Plus, then yearh it is the worse of the bunch. There are some tweaks you can make to it to improve it if you comfortable with some DIY mods.

Lol, right! My OCD screams every time I pick it up to play a game. It does disappear after about a minute or so of playing a game if that helps.

Yes, for sure, if your requirements are 5th gen and below, the Miyoo Mini Plus is my top choice and recommendation as well. You can't beat the user experience with Onion OS.

It is not difficult, as you said, the larger ribbon cable is where you could possibly run into issues. With most D-pad mods, you may need to open up the device sometimes 2, 3 or 4 times to tweak things. Just be honest with yourself if this is something within your comfort zone and whether the risk is worth it for you. I happen to think the D-pad is okay on here. It can be improved for sure with a mod. Just give yourself way more time than you think you need. Most of the mistakes I have made when tearing down devices were made when I got impatient and rushed things. Also, if you are going for it, be sure to use Kapton tape. Good luck!

It takes me right back to my childhood when I play it every time. That entire series is special flaws and all.

Out of all the budget handhelds I own ( and I own alot, ) this one doesnt feel as premium. If you are looking for better build quality I would take a look at the ones from ambernic and the retroid. For what its worth I have not had any issues with mine and I have not seen many others complaining about this one. I think its a solid purchase for a sub 100 dollar handheld.

@@muzzworks PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 is also 8:7, some Sega CD games are also 8:7 Because they have only 256 dots horizontally So 8:7 games should fit nice on 8:8 screen of RGB30

That's what's great about them. They are the perfect drop-in replacement and provide more precision, and should never have any stick drift issues.

All games you have downloaded in Splore, such as favorites and featured games, are cached on your RGB30 and can be played offline. You can also find all cached games in the BBS/Carts folder in Splore. You only need a connection to find games or load additional games that you have not viewed or played before.

I think it's more about the battery management of the device. The battery life itself lasts quite a long time. Turn it off completely when you are done. I prefer JelOS, but Ark is really good as well.

I did manage to clone mine to a sandisk micro sd card successfully. So this should have worked for you. Not sure what the issue could be there.

Pull out SD card 2 and use a micro sd card reader to connect it up to your PC or Mac. There is a folder for each platform. Add the game rom you want to add to the correct folder on thr card. Re-insert the card then reboot the RGB30.

It is one of my favorite SNES RPGs.

Agreed, It works really well for vertical arcade games. I will give the NEO GEO Pocket a try on the RGB30.
