I hope one day Goddard College comes back to life once people realize you can't get this type of experience taking online classes.

I found this original VHS tape buried in the Goddard College Library Archive in 2004; watched about 4-5 graduation ceremonies until I stumbled upon Trey’s. Plainfield Living Legend Willis Pratt makes a cameo at the end. Glad to see it finally made the light of day!

It’s crazy to have a super genius come through your college. Lois seemed to have known it at the time too. She was spot on! Checking this out after Gamehenge at MSG on NYE.

This is the kind of education experience every human and society could greatly benefit from. Very nice to see, on top of the significance of Lois’ intro and the “musical with puppets”.

Goddard (ADP 1980) was, and still is, my salvation, my escape from ten years in Washington DC which ended in the arrival of the Reagan poison. Mostly, though, it is where I met and have spent the rest of my life with Rickey Gard Diamond ADP 1981), my life partner, best friend and confidante. I have so much else to thank Goddard for, including hiring me which allowed me to move to Vermont. Underlying all my Goddard experience, of course, was its unerring persistence that I think, question, write about, read about and discuss everything that moved me, inspired me and has kept my mind well occupied all these years. Hurray for Goddard College where so many lives have been changed for the better.

My time there (1957-1960) was transformative. A Vermont boy I transferred to NYU to see the city and how traditional education differed from Goddard. I got to NYU Heights at the right time and was able to find a small network that let me create my own Goddard within NYU. But a huge regret that one cannot live dual lives, I wonder what life would have been like if I had stayed at Goddeard.

I arrived at Goddard in early 1973 when they were editing this film. I had little patience for film; I was into electronics before arriving at Goddard, so I gravitated to two other courses, instead. One was "Video Collective" where we recorded video with Sony porta-paks (AV-3400) during the week, then met every Friday to play our recordings to the group so we could review and critique our efforts. Many of the first recordings we made could have easily been entitled "I discover the zoom lens!" I ended up preferring the wide angle lens after awhile. What I gave up was color (there were no portable color video cameras at the time) and I didn't experience the extensive planning process demanded by film production. Film was expensive, it had to be sent out to a lab for processing, and during editing, the sound had to be carefully re-synchronized with the picture. The other course I enrolled in was to design, build, and operate a new radio station, taught by Kirk Gardner (shown in this film, in the TV studio). It was that course that resulted in the origin of WGDR-FM. By April 1973, we had completed our work and WGDR was on the air.

20:20 I like to think that Paul, and other puppeteers handle the preforming for video, instead of a live audience, fairly well. Afterall it is mostly like a magic show, the audience is iin one location, and you perform in a way that doesn't reveal the way you're operating the puppet. In video you have the extra task of using things like close-ups, and other techniques, but the lighting and setup is usually the same. Paul also preformed slide show fact based comedy about various topics, and even that required knowing what to highlight in various images, and what images to show. His film "In Smog and Thunder" was mostly paintings with a little puppetry. And the next one "Dante's Inferno" (2007 film), had much more puppetry, from shadow puppets to paper and solid objects being moved through the scenes.

MFAW 2002. Ms Li, it's so true, it's the individual attention that drives the writing from this program, and in particular the ways in which we are assisted via reading lists and suggested writers to investigate that can't be overpraised. Thanks for sharing a part of your journey and good luck with your writing.
